“Another world”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Cannaregio and Dorsoduro were my favorite sestieri while I visited Venice. What impressed me about Cannaregio was that it seemed like a different world. Very quiet, with a character of its own. Of course, the main streets were crowded with tourists, but I really tried to get into the heart of this region. Consequently, I found magical little streets, with beautiful shops, sellings objects from the jewish culture. Absolutely gourgeous!

“Get away from the crowds and stroll through this lovely neighborhood”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Cannaregio is a quiet neighborhood section of Venice that is great for strolling, finding wonderful little trattorias and markets and getting away from the tourist shops near St. Mark's. It's an easy walk from the San Marco area or you can hop on a water bus.

We also visited the Jewish Ghetto and related museums and synagogues. While our tour guide for the ghetto was less than enthusiastic, it was still an interesting experience and worth doing if you have an interest.

“a less visited corner of Venice”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

Good to get away from the tourists (the noisy kind) and wander this area on a Sunday afternoon down quiet canals, among local families out for a walk and see another side to the city. The Jewish Ghetto is well worth a visit.

“Don't miss it!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Not the main tourist area, but still handy for the Ferrovia (railway station) . Plenty of good eateries and not so many tourists. Don't miss the Ghetto and the fascinating shops away from the canal itself.

“A lively place at night”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

We were staying at the edge of Santa Croce near the Grand Canal and wandered over the bridge every night to Canneregio. Some nice bars & restaurants reasonably priced & a nice place to watch the world go by at night.
There are fruit stalls open until late & nobody thrusting roses on you which makes it more relaxing :)
A less busy although lively part of Venice at night & interesting to explore in the daytime once you've been around the 'must see's'. A much less touristy part of Venice - people really live here but an interesting and often picturesque area. There is a good opportunity to explore the area if you're catching the boat to the islands - Murano, Burano etc.from Fondamete Nuove on the northern edge of Canneregio.
