“Hotel Lisbona - July 2013”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Ideal location only 5 minutes walk from St Mark's Square and the waterbus/taxi stops, Within easy walking distance of many sights, cafe's and places to dine. Just inside the start of the Grand Canal and good for using the local transportation as for a tour of the canal. Quite compact rooms but perfectly adequate for a short stay (we stayed two nights). Clean, tidy, friendly staff.

Room Tip: Rooms with a (small) balcony are recommended - view of the gondola's doing business.

A real gem of a hotel. The location is great, just a few minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. Our first floor superior room had a tiny balcony overlooking the Moise Canal and from where we could watch what was happening on the water. There is a gondola station right next to the hotel and it was great to watch and listen to the gondoliers chatting and singing away.
Our room was very clean and beautifully decorated with silky fabric covered walls, curtains and bedding covers and had a lovely large fancy edged mirror. It was well equipped with everything. Breakfast, continental style, was served on the ground floor and had a good selection of everything needed to set you up for the day.
All the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Staying at the Hotel Lisbona was a great experience and very good value for money, especially as it is right in the heart of Venice.
I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

This was our last hotel in a long list of them and it was wonderful.
We where in room11 on the first floor with a balcony over the canal and a gondola stop, it really added to the experience of our stay in Venice.
The staff where helpful and seem to remember us very quickly, often welcoming us with our key before we said our number.
Breakfast was in this quaint little area with a few tables, we did have to wait one morning for a table but that was not a problem.
Great hotel just a short walk from San Marco Square. It is also close to the San Marco vaporetto stop.

Me and my sister visited Venice in January 2013 (chilly!) staying at the Lisbona.

The hotel is a little hidden gem! And when I say hidden, I mean hidden. It may be because we couldnt navigate our way out of a paper bag but it took us over 2 hours to find the hotel after getting off the bus (with a map), and even then achieved it only by asking a lovely local man who led us right to the door (and didn't even wait for us to pay him for his help!)

The hotel is adorable, very Venice in style, like I said on the title. The room and bathroom were small but to be fair, who goes to Venice to spend a lot of time in the room, and beautifully traditionally decorated, we had a balcony over the canal where you woke in the morning to the gondoliers singing. The rooms could get quite warm and we left the balcony door open most nights and whilst getting ready in the mornings to get some air in - pretty safe as there was only water below us.

We encountered 2 people working on reception whilst we were there and both were lovely, very pleasant, polite and helpful. I can't comment on the breakfast as we never made it up in time (sooooo not morning people!)

The hotel itself is located almost on top of Prada and Gucci, so you are in good company :) and a literal 3 minute walk to St Marcs Square where you'll find tons of restaurants and the famous Florian Cafe

The 2 hours it took us to get to the hotel on landing is in reality, once you have your bearings, only a 20 minute stroll - like I say, we'd be lost in a paper bag.

Venice itself is a lovely place to visit but we found it a lot quieter on the sightseeing front than most other cities like Rome, Paris, Krakow, New York etc, but definitely worth a visit just to take it all in. Having no cars in this day and age really does feel like another world!

Oh, and don't worry that the hotel doesn't have a gymn, 4 days walking up and down over all the bridges will sort out any missed workouts :)

Room Tip: Get the canal view to really feel "Venicey"

Hotel Lisbona was relatively easy to find, even though it was hailing at that time (yes in March!). It is where branded good shops like MiuMiu is at one end of the bridge and Hotel Lisbona is just across the bridge. When we entered the hotel, the manager looked rather stern but it was fine. We got our key and was shown around our room. Our room was little but beautifully decorated. The size of the room is acceptable for me as rooms in London are generally small, and well this is Venice! At 70 euro per night with a bathroom including breakfast, I think it is a good price. Attractions like Piazza San Marco are just nearby. We had a good stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view and watch the world goes by!

We stayed here mid-May, and were very pleased. As others have mentioned, it is a small room (and bathroom), but who really stays in their room on a trip? The balcony we had was a-mazing. Right on the canal where you can watch the gondolas and hear the gondoliers singing - it was breathtaking!!! We stood out there for a good bit, sipping prosecco, a beautiful start to our honeymoon!
I'm not sure what the warning was for the free trip to Murano - we enjoyed it very much. We had our own private water taxi take us out to the island, where we met with a private tour guide through the glass factory. After about 20 minutes of watching the magic, we headed to the showroom, where we could of course not afford anything. We ended in the gift shop, where we purchased an item. The gentleman who was our guide did hang out in the showroom/gift shop the entire time with us, but it wasn't too much of a bother, and we didn't feel pressured to buy.
Note: if you hear sirens while in Venice, that means that San Marco square is flooding, and you will need to walk through barefoot. Yikes!
All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel!!

The hotel was well located but had extremely small rooms and bathrooms. As forewarned I avoided the free trip to Murano that was offered by one of the hotel receptionists. I must say that if we were to check out early and place the luggage in their care , you will find that it s left just in the hotel lobby totally unattended some of the times. I also noticed that once or twice there was no one at the reception and once again anyone could have taken the keys to the rooms. Security could be tighter and one of the male bespectacled receptionists uses a very rude tone of voice and always seems very highly stressed at very minor requests or queries. He has a lot to learn about being gentle and polite to occupants. But listening to the gondoliers and seeing them without having to pay a cent from the room was really nice.

Room Tip: There was no pool.

We would like to reassure the guest that at no time is the reception area unattended, as it may have seemed, as there is video surveillance installed which allows the staff to observe the area of the reception desk, as well as covering the area of the lobby where luggage is temporarily stored upon check-out.
On a lighter note, we would also like to note that very few of the hotels in Venice have room enough for a swimming pool, as the space available is mostly limited to what existed already some thousand years ago when the islands were settled... which is also the reason some of our rooms are smaller than the standards many expect from the "terra ferma" (mainland) though the superior rooms are quite roomy.
