Hotel Royal San Marco

Nice for budget travelers. Not in any way 4 stars hotel.
Very close to San Marco squere.
Room was very small. Average european breakfast.
The staff can smile from time time, were very unplesent.
Recommended for travelers that want to stay close to the Center, and don't plan to stay in the room, rather then sleeping.

Great Location-look on map before you go then its easy to find. Staff were helpfull. We throughly enjoyed our 3 night stay here and would stay there again. The bells are all part of the venice experience! Breakfast was buffet-but lots of choice.the hotel also has its own bar. Who can be worried about room size when san marco square is only feet away! Our room was clean, quiet and air conditioned.

I enjoyed my stay at Royal San Marco- we did not expect any accomodation to be on a grand scale in Venice and the room was small but perfectly adequate. The staff were very helpful and when we were there we had a perfectly good breakfast- a wide range of continental dishes were on offer including gorgeous crispy Italian bacon. The hotel was very clean and the you can sit in the well appointed lounge area to read or relax if you feel the need for a little more space. My only concern was that in our room there was an occasional discordant clanging noise- like scaffolding poles being knocked together- but I realised (from reading about a similar experience by a travel writer in Spain) that this was because we were close to or above a nearby belfry. It might annoy you during a longer stay but it simply added to the charm on a short break. Venice is a stunningly beautiful place, and I would put up with a lot more than slight inconveniences like this to stay there.

I was booked in for Best Western Albergo San Marco which is the sister company of Royal San Marco Hotel. As the Best Western had a problem with the plumbing I was "upgraded" to Royal San Marco across the street. The room was pleasant and clean, but note small double room, is also known as two single beds put together to make a double! Decor in typical Venitian style which was cute. Breakfast was an expensive 15 Euros and definitely not worth the price- dry rolls, tinned fruit, basic salami & ham and tasteless cheese. Luckily I didnt have to pay for the breakfast as part of the upgrade, but avoid as simply not worth it.

Great location.. And that's about it. The room was very tiny, and the bathroom was kind of gross.
Its website is very deceiving, making it look like a luxurious, 4-star hotel. I'd give it 2.5 stars. In addition, the staff wasn't entirely pleasant either.

This hotel was in a great location. It was a little difficult for us to find, but we knew it was in the vicinity of Saint Mark's Square. So once we were in the square, instead of walking all over with our luggage, we stopped at a gelato store and asked for directions. They knew right away where it was since it was just down the street.
The room was small - but this is not unusual for Europe. I have yet to stay in a hotel in Europe where the rooms are not small. We didn't really care because all we needed the room for was a place to sleep and shower.
I've read reviews where people reported that the staff was unfriendly and rude. This was not the case for us. The staff there was extremely friendly and helpful. Giuliana even accessed our airline's web site and helped us check in for our flight. Every person there was friendly from housekeeping to the front desk.
If there was one drawback to this hotel, it's that the shower curtain had a little bit of mold on the bottom. We didn't complain, we found it tolerable since we were only in the room for 2 nights.

All in all, the staff was above average and the hotel itself was average.

Stayed one night before a Great Seabourn Cruise. I agree the front desk male staffers could use a customer service class, but there were two female staffers that were very nice and helpful. We had two rooms and everything in them was small, but that is common for most of Europe. The rooms were clean, beds were harder then I like, and the BK was as you would expect. This property location is great, but it is about 1/4 mile from were our water taxi dropped us to the hotel. We are mobile travelers, but wife did not enjoy dragging her luggage through St Marks Sq. and over a bridge (I did that for her). We got a porter to get our bags to the water taxi the next day (35EU). Short walking distance to all the major attractions. Venice is such a great city, don't let the small details get in the way of your enjoyment.....
