When in Venice and looking for a good local bar (with great Prosecco at a sensible price and tasty snacks) head for Bar Fiamma near the Academia district of the city. Not many places are easy to find once you've been there (and we found this place purely by chance) but thiis is easily re-located. Cross the Rialto Bridge and keep walking straight until you reach the square the fish market is located on and Bar Fiamma is to be found on the right hand corner as you approach. The proprietor is a genuine entertainer and provides you with a variety of snacks as you drink. This is essentially a locals' bar with a regular clientele. There's beer but try what the locals drink - it's worth every effort for a visit. We went at Christmas when it was relatively quiet; I imagine it may get busier in the summer.
