For the best view ofthe whole waterfront of Venice including St. Marks Square and the entrance to the Grand Canal, you have to go here and go up the campanile. There is a lift and the charge is modest. Make sure you have plenty of space on you camera. The views are stunning and a photographers' dream.

This is a huge church for the sole use of the monks of the attached abbey and the inside is, I thought, a little disappointing but well worth the visit.

Although you have to pay to get to San Giorgio island it is definitely worth the trip. There is an elevator to the bell tower with an incredible view of the canals and St. Mark's Square and this tower is a bit cheaper than the one at St. Mark's.

The church (unless you're specially interested in these relics of a dying superstition) is without interest. But the top of the bell tower (accessed by a lift, not stairs) provides an unparalleled view over St Mark's Square and the landscape of Venice.

The church is wonderful in an austere way. The art is lovely. I particularly enjoyed the elevator to the top of the Campanile for astounding views of the entire area.

Go to San Giorgio, visit the church, possibly the monastery and enjoy a superb view of San Marco from the island. Nice to walk around the Marina.
