“Nice little day trip”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We went to San Giorgi Maggiore on the recommendation of our tour guide. The Vaporetto ride there was quite enjoyable, providing a different view of Venice. The church was quite impressive. However, it was the view of Venice from the Bell tower that was what we'd come for. It is a perfect vantage point from which to take pictures of Piazza San Marco, Basilica San Marco and the Doge's Palace. We were definitely glad we bothered.

“Timing is everything!”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

We enjoyed our visit there, and loved the view from the top of the tower. Because we were on vacation, we weren't really focused on the time, and we found ourselves at the top at noon! And just so you know, they don't just ring those bells 12 times - they seemed to go on forever!! Actually, it was funny seeing all of the tourists up there covering their ears and laughing.

“oaisis in the jewel of venice”

a must do - travel across to the island and enjoy the peace and tranquility of both outside, within the church and from the tower - dusk and the changing light over the city is magical

“Perfect View of the Grand Canal and St Mark's Square”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

What can I say. Skip the queue at the bell tower at St. Mark's Square, jump on the vaporetto and make your way to this place. No long queue and the best thing is there is a lift up to the belfry! You will be so mesmerized by the view from the bell tower here.

“Amazing views of Venice”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

When the crowds of St Marks Square become too much. When you're fighting to get into a position where you can get that shot of the bridge of sighs without a thousand heads in the picture. Take a deep breath, walk away, and hop on the vaporetto to this lovely place.

First thing you notice is the lack of crowds. Next thing is just how peaceful it is, and how good Venice looks from a distance when you're not actually in the crowd.

Enter the church, and once again you're not competing with a mass of people for the view. While it's a beautiful church, the icing on the cake is the view across the Canale di San Marco from the tower. And you get to the top of the tower by the most civilized means. A lift!

No climbing four hundred and twenty seven stairs, like elsewhere in Italy. Just take the lift. the view from the top over all of Venice is stunning. And once again you're not jammed in like sardines in a tin.

Certainly worth the short boat ride to escape the crowds alone. The views are an added bonus.
