“Good value and good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

Good location centred between Rialto bridge and St Marks Square. Quite a way from the train station. Free breakfast was good, packet croissants and cereals and coffee machine. Good start to the day. Looks out on canals. No wifi in most of the rooms only in brekfast room but not at breakfast time.

You can't beat it's location near Rialto bridge and San Marco. Only one bridge to lug luggage over! The staff was moderately helpful at best. Breakfast was a nice selection of packaged refined flour products (think bread with a long shelf life!) but also had juice and a cappuccino machine. A nice surprise is that our room was on a canal! Which I got to enjoy half the night because I was hopped up on cappuccinos from breakfast. Free wifi a plus but not during breakfast?! Weird

My mother and I booked this hotel before reading any of the reviews (rookie mistake I know). On arrival, the manager insisted on being paid in full, in cash for the 4 days (I don't think this is standard procedure anywhere). After going to a cash point, we started to think this was quite weird, and in conjunction with the awful reviews we were worried about the standard of the room. Therefore, when we got back we asked if we could see the room. He flatly refused. We then tried to negotiate paying for night upfront without seeing the room but he became increasingly aggressive and rude towards us; shouting and physically coming out from behind the reception. After sometime me and my mother felt hugely uncomfortable and threatened by him and decided to look for somewhere else, at which point he sweetly told us he had our credit card details and would charge us anyway (which he did do).

This was without doubt one of the worst experiences of hotel management I have ever come across. I would dissuade anyone from booking here. Not only because of this threatening behavior, but also because clearly he makes a habit out putting extra charges on credit cards. Don't make the same mistake we made!

Don't ask the reception staff for any assistance, they are very unhelpful. The hotel is in a great location and right on a canal, but be warned very very noisy in the morning as right across from a loading dock, towels are like loafers (very rough) but the rooms are very big. Overall ok value for money as you are in Venice after all!

We were in a triple bedroom with shared bathroom which didn't feel like we were sharing at all! It felt like it was being cleaned every 15mins! The room was basic but clean. It looks old but it's Venice and for the price we paid, we couldn't complain as the hotel is centrally located. Only 5mins walk from Rialto Bridge (where the watertaxi from airport stops as well as the waterbuses) and 5 mins walk to San Marco Square! As the hotel sits right next to a busy canal, noise at night is inevitable but again, this is Venice and this is part and parcel of this magical island! Being so central, we got to enjoy Venice at night as the other parts of Venice are dark at night and walking would be daunting! Breakfast selection was good. There is wifi at the lobby of the hotel and didn't work where in our room as it's on an annexed building. I think it works better in rooms on the building where the lobby is located. Service was good and friendly. In finding the hotel, base yourself on Rialto bridge, just walk straight down the bridge towards San Marco. Turn right at the first junction after the bridge. You'll see Disney store on your left, take the lane right beside the Disney store. Walk along the lane, cross a small bridge and you'll reach a small church. Walk pass the church and Hotel Caneva is on your right. I can only highly recommend this hotel for budget travellers who seek central location.

Just stayed here for one night, as we arrived in Venice without pre booking and it was the first place we found with a spare room at a reasonable price. It was fairly easy to find, which is definitely something in Venice!! Me and a friend got a twin room. It was clean, spacious, had a fan, an ensuite bathroom with good shower, the beds weren’t the most comfortable in the world but what can you expect at such a low price. It was quiet, had free wifi and included breakfast, which was again pretty good – fresh bread, ham, jams etc… little cakes, coffee, juice, fruit cereal, plenty to set us up for a day’s wandering the streets. The staff were friendly and helpful. The best thing going for it is the location, its’ about 3 minutes walk from the Rialto bridge, 5 minutes from San Marco, good deal for the price in the heart of Venice.

In fact, it's the simplest one in our long trip in Italy,
as the high price in Venice, I think, it's worthy & with convenient traffic.
In our room, we have big window can view outside, Gondolas always pass by !!!
True Venice, indeed.

In the morning, we opened it & listened the morning 'sounds',
with boats, birds & early-wake-up people.
It's what we want !
