A wonderful hotel in every way. This was our third visit to Venice and by far the best hotel of all situated on a small canal off the Grand Canal in the Dosoduro area. The generous size room had two small balconies overlooking the canal.[only two have balconies] The 18thC hotel is decorated with wall and ceiling fresco's and very comfortable furniture . There is only one easy flight of stairs but the manager took up our baggage anyway.Excellent breakfasts of cereal, fruit. eggs ,ham and pastries were enjoyed in a lovely courtyard [ for all guests]with a small window to the canal. You can arrive in style via a private water taxi from near the Stazione right into the canal door of the hotel but is a lot more expensive than the crowded but exciting trip along the Grand Canal by public vaporetto[water bus] The English speaking hotel staff were very courteous and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. It was an easy 100 meter walk from the Grand Canal vaporetto stop ,Ca Rezzonica , and also close to the Accademia Bridge and the delightful Peggy Guggenheim Museum of art, An short stroll away is nice little piazza with St Barnaba's church, shops and eateries and a fruit and vege barge on the canal. A German guest persuaded us to stay an extra day for the Regatta with 2000 oared boats of all shapes and sizes with crazy entrants from all over Europe leaving from San Marco. It was a long walk to the best vantage point, Canal di Cannaregio where they all crowded in from Burano on the way back to San Marco. not too crowded to sit canalside with a glass of wine and cheer them in. What a hoot! Well worth the extra day of sunshine and laughter. We were lucky the hotel could accomodate us in a different room, still very good. We can't speak highly enough about San Barnaba and its staff. We were sad to leave, will return to Venice and will look no further for hotels -Locanda San Barnaba will be it in future. 4 star at 3 star prices. Lonely Planet regularly recommends it too.

We loved staying at Locanda San Barnaba. The rooms in the hotel were beautiful, the breakfast delicious, and the front desk staff very friendly. It's in a nice, quiet location a very short walk from one of the vaporetto stops on the Grand Canal, so it's very easy to get to the airport or train station. We're so glad we stayed here instead of our other possible choice on the Zattere (which we found too busy and a bit industrial). It was fun just walking up the beautiful staircase and through the gorgeous sitting room on the second floor. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the San Barnaba for three nights in Sept.
We had a large, clean, quiet room on the salon floor with an amazing 16th century fresco on our ceiling.
The breakfasts were good and on a warm day you can sit out on the terrace by the small canal that runs past the hotel. The hotel is very close to a vaparetto stop and centrally located.
Roberto was a tremendously help. Not only did he check every morning to see if Alitalia was still operating and our flight was not cancelled, but he recommended good restaurants.
In the evening you can sit out on the terrace and have a cocktail, which is quite a treat after wandering around Venice all day.
Roberto also suggested three different ways to get to the airport.
We chose a water taxi, which Roberto arranged. Although it was the most expensive way to get to the airport, it was a wonderful way to arrive at the airport, refreshed and unharried.

We stayed 12-16 September in a classic double on the second floor, overlooking the little canal. Roberto on Reception was amazingly helpful, and all of the staff made us feel very welcome.
The room was a good size, very clean and the bed was firm - ideal.
The ensuite was little dark but everthing worked.
Breakfasts were excellent.
In the very heavy rain on Saturday we suffered a roof leak and as a precaution we were moved in the afternoon down to a single room on the Ground Floor where an extra bed was installed. We moved back up on Sunday morning following repairs. Owner and Staff very apologetic and we were very pleased to be given that night in the single room B&B free of charge.

This is a hotel we would definately reccommend and also re-visit.

Good value and great location in Dorsoduro.

We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely little hotel. Our room on the top floor was clean, cool, and comfortable. The location is perfect. It is private and peaceful and only a short walk to a Vaparette station. The staff we found to be very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very enjoyable served in the prettly little courtyard, again by nice waitress. There is no bad comment for this hotel and w e will certainly return.

My family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) stayed at the San Barnaba for 2 nights in early April. The location was steps from the Dosoduro vaparetto stop in one direction and the lovely Campo San Barnaba in another. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. I spent hours researching other accomodations, but our decision to go with this hotel came down to a personal recommendation from a friend of a friend. The rooms were spacious and quiet. My husband and I had a king room and the kids were in a double/double. We ate breakfast in the dining area both mornings and it was wonderful. My husband proclaimed the homemade croissants the best he had ever tasted. The front desk was helpful with restaurant recommendations and vaparetto information. Really, you couldn't ask for a better spot -- away from the touristy crowds, but walking distance to everywhere. You won't regret choosing to stay here and Venice is so beautiful!

My very well traveled aunt said that the Dorsoduro area is the best in Venice, and of about 10 hotels (3 and 4 star) in the Dorsoduru area that I contacted, Locanda San Barnaba had the best rate combined with location. I am very happy we stayed here and will absolutely stay here again if we're fortunate enough to make another trip to Venice.

The hotel is very accessible via the vaporetto, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and our room was great. Breakfast is served in a great patio, the hotel staff is eager to help with luggage, directions, sightseeting, and dinner reservations. We arranged for a water taxi to take us to Marco Polo Airport via the concierge and the taxi arrived at the side entrance to the hotel promptly, and the hotel staff had breakfast available to use even before the formal breakfast service had started.

There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance. There's an indoor/outdoor bar within steps, and we ate 3 out of 4 nights near Campo San Barnaba. I'm jealous for those that will get to enjoy this lovely hotel!!!

Experience a warm welcome in a 16th century Palace, where the enchantment and magic of Venice are complemented by the modern conveniences required by even the most exacting clientele. An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. Each of the fourteen rooms has a story to tell: the lover's nest, the philosopher's refuge, the artist' s studio, the playwright' s chamber, where echoes of his muse still linger. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
