This was our first trip to Venice. We found the location great and the staff friendly and helpful. We had a standard double room which was an okay size - enough space for two people. The rooms were very clean. We opted for a room that included a continental breakfast which had a reasonable selection. Overall a nice hotel and perfect location for visiting St Marks Square etc.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for a stay in Venice. literally down an alley off the back of Saint Mark's Square, so easy to find, great value for money and the hosts couldnt do enough for us.
We had a family room - not at all crowded (and we have stayed in some minute family rooms!) air conditioning, great breakfast on the roof terrace.

Hotel staff let us into the room at 10am, kept luggage safe the next day after check out, helped with directions, gave access to the internet in their office to print off boarding passes etc

Perfect for families.

Firstly, other reviews have said that there are too many stairs to get up to reception, there are about 30 stairs so by no means an insane amount :) The reception staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, taking time to mark on a map all of the sights we might like to see. The rooms are very small, but that is exactly what we expected. We werent staying there for a big room... we were in Venice! The location is incredible though admittedly we got lost many times trying to find our way back and ended up seeing a whole lot more of this beautiful city :)
Highly recommend! Staff 10/10 Location 10/10 Room size 1/10 :)

This is a good, decent, inexpensive place to stay in the heart of Venice, just steps away from Piazza San Marco. Free internet and breakfast (which is served in a cute roof-top terrace). On breakfast, you don't get anything like an American breakfast in Italy. Usually a croissant and coffee. Hotel San Gallo gives you a little more -- plenty of coffee, warm croissants, and even cereal. I highly recommend this place for budget stay in the summer. But there are a lot more good options during off-seasons (October, November, May, etc.).

This was quite a find, being in our price range and being so close to San Marco. A small comfortably furnished hotel occupying a first floor, it was just a few seconds walk (or a minute’s suitcase trundle) through one of San Marco’s great archways, and past the local Hard Rock Cafe. The hotel is up a steep but wide set of stairs, which caused no problem to us, but could be tricky for those with less mobility and heavy luggage. However, the staff were very nice and I’m sure they’d be able to assist.

To quote from my travel diary: “our room was full of afternoon sun (arrival time), with mustard walls, blue velvet drapes and bed head, pressed metal ceiling and a chandelier in rose and clear glass.” It was a perfectly good size for two people who didn’t intend to spend much time in it. And we enjoyed our complimentary ‘cornetta and cappuchino’ breakfasts in the low ceiling'd comfy parlour.

When booking Hotel San Gallo, I had noted other reviewers saying they were disturbed from sleep by the noisy drinking patrons passing by outside. I had shrugged “we shall BE those people!” As it is, our two Venetian nights saw us trekking home after 2am, so I can’t comment on the evening noise levels earlier, and seriously hope WE didn’t wake anyone.

I would definitely stay here again. We were probably lucky to get a room, though our visit was in spring, shortly after Carnivale, so I am not sure if the prices hike up radically, but certainly being almost right on San Marco makes for easy finding, once you have found San Marco of course.
