Just got back from Italy, stayed here 11/11 and 11/12 2013. Great breakfast, room, service and location.I would suggest this location, right off boardwalk area of Grand Canal, San Marco, Vapretto and dining /shopping.

When we made our reservation, the Locanda was booked but they had rooms in their new annex property (across the calle or alley) and we were fortunate that this was the case. The building was very old but had been renovated recently and beautifully done. The bedrooms had all new furniture, reproductions of earlier Venetian styles. The room was relatively large for a B&B, it was quiet and brand new clean. For the price, I can't imagine one doing better. The owners were so helpful and friendly. It was literally feet to Piazza San Marco, the closest water taxi station and other incredible sights. I became ill and had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night. The desk clerk escorted us there on foot because we had no idea how to get there. Over and above the call of duty at 1:30 a.m. When we left, the owners left a bag of fantastic fresh cookies on our bed to take with on the return home. Great place.

Al Leon is in the heart of Venice, with walking distance to just about everything. We were here in April of 2013 and we were two couples traveling by car from Switzerland.

We drove over Via Liberta (cause way in to town) and parked in a parkade at 29 Euros per day. Don't be shocked but you might be asked to leave your keys in the car so they can move them around if needed.

From here you have two options to get in to the downtown core, water taxi or water bus. Water bus is way cheaper but takes a bit longer. After about 20 min on the "bus" we arrive at our location and walk about 5 min up to Hotel Al Leon.

The hotel has a two bedroom apartment in addition to the regular rooms. The apartment is 7 minute walk from the hotel itself. This option was great for us since we were two couples. The apartment has two bedrooms, two full baths and a living/kitchen area. Just great and very spacious.

Everything was nice and clean and the owners Guiliano and Marcela are just wonderful people.

Since you can't drive here you have to be able to walk, push and show all your luggage, so travel light.

There is a fantastic little cafe just 30 steps around the corner from the hotel where you can have coffee and fresh croissants in the morning and a glass of Rosé for happy hour in the afternoon. Nothing fancy just good.

Room Tip: Travel light you have to carry all your luggage up and down stairs and along narrow cobble stone str...

My wife and I spent our last couple nights of an Italian vacation here in October, 2013. This is a charming building over 500 years old on a typical narrow Venice street and just off one of the small piazzas. It is less than a 5 minute walk from one of the vaporetto (water bus) stops (on the Grand Canal) with the Alilaguna stop (boat to and from the airport) in the same area. There is no elevator and we were on the top floor, but they helped us with our luggage and the stairs were part of the experience in an old city. Rooms are small by US standards, but you need to be ready for a smaller room in Europe, and they are nicely decorated, clean, and quiet. We had a small balcony with table and chairs which overlooked the street the hotel is on. It is an easy walk to St Marks square and other sights and part of the fun is exploring the narrow streets of Venice. On a return to Venice we would stay here again!

Beautiful, tastefully done hotel. It is very close to and easily accessible on a vaporetti stop. The room and bathroom was very spacious. It is centrally located to the Piazza San Marco. The owners Marcela and Guiliano are very accommodating and great hosts from helping us with our luggage to arranging an early breakfast for us. We would love to stay there again!

My mom and I had a great 3 night stay one week ago. The location is perfect - you are so close to St Mark 's Square but it was a nice and quiet refuge from the near-by hustle and bustle. Our room was exactly as described and as seen in photos on their website. Very clean, wifi worked great from our room. Breakfast was also very good with fresh pastries and cappuccino or coffee made to order. We would definitely stay there again!

Venice may be lovely, but our hotel Locanda Al Leon was less than lovely, ha! To be totally truthful, it wasn’t that bad. Just a bit outdated. It was clean, but the carpet looked like it had seen better days (like when it was installed a couple of decades ago). The good news was that we had chosen to stay right off of St Mark’s Square which was the ideal location for us since we were only in Venice for a day.
