“Perfect location and very friendly staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Fontana. The hotel is located within a short distance from the Vaporetto stop and St. Mark's Square. It is also located next to a restaurant , bar and a few small shops on a very quaint Venitian street. The owners, who are brothers, were very friendly offering warm smiles, cold beverages and made us feel very welcome. They were also incredibly helpful in suggesting the best ways to see Venice and recommended their favorite places to eat which we really enjoyed. Our room was clean, with a beautiful balcony overlooking a small courtyard with a view of the church. The hotel was very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was substantial and well attended to by the staff. Overall, we would definately stay here again and would recommend it whole heartedly to anyone!!

A small hotel that you could walk right past. We had a delightful stay there, helped by Diago and family. They made sincere enquiries as to our needs being met. Made some great suggestions on things to see. Would never had gone to Burano without their input. We had a double deluxe with a balcony. The room was a nice size, clean and quiet. The balcony was an absolutely great place to relax with a drink of wine after a busy day and before dinner. The location is 5 minutes from San Marco square, so an excellent location. Water taxi stop 5 minutes. Lots of great restaurants around. They have a great breakfast available in the morning...boiled eggs, cereal, crossants ,meats. The way they run the place makes you feel at home with fiends, not in a commercial hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is just 5 minutes from San Marco Piazza, and a couple of blocks from the Vaporeto. Our family of 4 stayed there on early August during record heat, the hotel has a brand new air conditioning system that works great. The Hotel is family run, we had the pleasure to meet Diego and the Nonna, both of them were very helpful in providing information about local places to eat and places to visit. The room was very quiet and clean, we were able to shut the outdoor window shutter which made the room even more comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and had a nice size, the shower works very well. Breakfast was nice, with many types of bread, juice, milk, cereal, boiled eggs, different cold meets and some fruit. The hotel is close to many restaurants and shoppes, it is in the middle of everything. We found it very convenient to go back to the hotel to rest after a long walk thru the streets of Venice or after visitng one of the museums, it is very centrally located. The value for this hotel is great, we will definately stay here again when we return to Venice. We are also suggesting this hotel to any friend or family planning to visit Venice.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are very quiet, you can close the outside shutters to make room darker. Also check...

Fontana is excellently located five minutes from S Marco and three minutes from vaporetto. Family run hotel by two brothers, grandsons of original owner who created the hotel when the German nuns left to return home 45 years ago. We found the family friendly and receptive to chats, giving useful advice on where to eat (eg the place across the square gives 10% off for Fontana guests) and they certainly know the places where locals eat (not opposite)! Rooms (we had 8 and 14) were decent size and on the 'quiet side' overlooking inner gardens and the church (no bells from 12 till 7 am). Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, towels changed each day. Overall decor was cooly Italian: we liked it! However don't expect extras in the room (no kettle). Breakfast was good with cereal, tinned pineapple, juice, tea/coffee, rolls (incl wholemeal) and the usual cold meats ... plus hard boiled eggs! We will return to this hotel, an excellent base to explore and experience Venice.

Room Tip: If you want a quite room, ask for it ... the back is best. If you are a people watcher, then the fro...

This hotel is a hidden gem. The best priced hotel in a fantastic location, i was expecting alot less for what we paid and we were pleasantly surprised, large room with aircon and many english channels on tv. The staff were extra friendly and very knowledgable. Breakfast was surprisingly good with hot crossaints, cereal and fruits. Could not reccomend it more.

Needing somewhere to stay at the end of a cruise before our flights home, we aimed to book the hotel we'd already arranged to stay in at the start of our vacation but discovered that the difference between weekday and weekend prices was 50-100 euros so sought out somewhere else. Hotel Fontana was the most reasonably priced and highest placed hotel on Trip advisor and was one of the few places allowing a single night stay at the weekend too. Knowing that it was literally just somewhere to crash at the end of a long holiday and that it was considerably cheaper than most other places in Venice on a weekend, our expectations weren't especially high but we were impressed at how it turned out.
The location is superb, being just a five minute stroll from St. Mark's and the corresponding stops on the canal and in a lovely square which was just bustling enough to avoid that eeriness that many of Venice's less-populated areas have, without being overrun with tourists. We were welcomed warmly at reception and despite being over an hour early and expecting to be able to only drop our bags off, we were pleased to find our room was ready and we could check in.
We had a first floor room (accessible by either stairs or lift) which had a large window with metal and wooden screen doors which opened onto an interior garden area and a sort of balcony which could be opened although the area was a private part of the hotel. This mattered not, as we had plans to rest up and explore the last parts of the city we hadn't seen at the start of our holiday. The room itself had a double and a single within and was clean and tidy with some lovely old wooden furniture such as quaint bedside tables and a gigantic wardrobe. The bathroom had a small shower/square bath and was of medium size.
The hotel is ideally placed for tourism, being close to the main hotspots such as the Basilica and Campanille and the lovely area around the Arsenale and Bienalle. We found a choice of restaurants literally on the doorstep too.
Breakfast was served in the downstairs lounge area and was a standard continental enhanced by both a self-service quality coffee machine and by warm, freshly-baked pastries.
For the location, the time we booked and the quality, the Hotel Fontana is a real bargain. We would happilly stay there again!

Stayed for two nights prior to a cruise...difficult to find family/quad room but this was perfect! A double and two twin beds in a large room was ideal for our short stay. Air con was welcomed! En suite was adequate and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was simple but enough to satisfy ones appetite. The free wifi in bar area was a lifesaver for teens!!! Located close to San Marco. All in all a hotel providing very good value for money (£279 for 2 nights/quad room incl breakfast)
