we spent a few days in venice at the beginning of october staying at the fontana this hotel is certainly in a brilliant location a few mins walk from st marks square and the san zaccaria vapretto stop and rialto bridge if you choose to walk as we do and see real venice only 10-15 minutes to walk and easily found.

Hotel very nice and clean, very helpful stuff who speak very good english and nothing was no trouble was a little small but very good value for money and would certainly stay there again.Plenty of eateries very close including one opposite so need to wander far if you didnt need to.

One drawback seemed to be a gathering point for school children to congregate from about 7am and lots of children do make quite a cackle! Venice as everybody knows can be very expensive but there are very nice and reasonable places to eat though drink seems expensive wherever you go.

Our group of six were pleased with our rooms and the location of the hotel. The breakfast is generous and tasty in an attractive room. The young guy at the main desk was friendly and informed.

Strong point is location relative to price. Hotel is about 500 yards from the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop, and a walk of a few minutes to St. Mark's Square. Other positive aspects are good food options close-by: just across a small bridge from the hotel entrance is Trattoria Alla Rivetta (good pastas and seafood), several small shops selling sandwiches, etc. along Calle de Rasse, and a small bar next door to the hotel.

The hotel itself is clean, good service, breakfast, and A/C. Only negative is no WiFi. Lastly, I had a single room and the size of the room was fine for me. Still, if you are about 6 foot or over you may have some minor difficulty with taking showers/moving around the bathroom.

We stayed at the Hotel Fontana for three nights in September 2011, and thought it was great!
Our room was surprisingly large, and had a view of the San Zaccharia, the cleanliness was of a good standard.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, we felt very welcome.
There is a nice, and often busy, little bar next to the hotel, I would recommend making this your last stop for the night.
The breakfast was basic, but was adequate and plentiful.
The location was as good as you will find, only a five minute walk from St Mark's Square.
Finally, do not underestimate the benefit of being able to get off the water bus at San Marco, San Zaccharia, and being able to walk to the hotel without crossing any bridges, try not to be too smug when you see sweaty tourists dragging their suitcases over all the bridges!!

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Fontana and loved it. The rooms and hotel were very clean and service was amazing. We stayed in a room with a terrace with a nice view of a small church and square. The breakfast was really nice, the hardboiled eggs were a nice touch.

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, he made reservations for us at a nice restaurant and treated us great. I've found that great service like this place tends to make or break how you feel about a hotel experience.

Lastly, Its only maybe a 3 minute walk from St. Marks square, situated perfectly because its just outside enough so that you can regain your sanity from the busy day of sight seeing.

We will stay here again when we return to venice!

The Hotel Fontana was wonderful. We could not fault it. The family and their staff have it just right - a real home from home. Would advise you ask for room 11 with a lovely balcony overlooking San Zaccharia church!. A traditional Venetian hotel in an excelent location literally 5 minutes from Saint Mark's Square and the vaparetto at San Zaccharia Jolanda. The Steiner family deserve the excellent reputation they have.

Room Tip: Room 11 was great!

We stayed at this family run small hotel for 3 nights and could not have asked for a better location. There is a small elevator, decent size rooms, very clean accommodations and a good European breakfast included. It is close to St. Mark's, the Danieli Hotel and the waterfront. Hairdryers are not included in the bathrooms which woud have been convenient and there is one community computer with internet available for guests. There are only 16 rooms on 4 floors with some rooms available across the street in an annnex I would recommend this hotel unless you are looking for luxury. The location is ideal.
