This was booked by our travel agent. It was alright, as one reviewer said, it is what it is. If and when I come back, I will not book it again though.

Our travel agent gave us instructions given by the hotel and she recommended that we take the waterbus. It's pretty far from the train station given that there's luggage to be pulled. It was easy to find from the Rialto station, and the instructions were perfect. The entrance is so small, not one you would expect from a hotel. The elevator was weird because it had two doors. And the room - well, it was big enough, but you know it's old. Even the closet and the tables were old, like antiques. I wouldn't say it's dingy, the room was clean.

The bathroom was SMALL. Hard to sit on the toilet when the door is closed. The door is a sliding accordion door! Also, the shower area is not separated so the water gets to the middle part of the bathroom. If you're particular with your bathrooms, then this definitely isn't the hotel for you.

Breakfast is the typical European hotel breakfast, and you have the option to eat outside which was lovely. The receptionist was friendly and explained things well to us.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. It was easy to get to Rialto and to San Marco with our iPhone GPS.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Malibran having booked this hotel through our travel agent. The pictures on line looked nice and included a buffet breakfast. Our friends that we were travelling with booked their room the day before our arrival. We found our travels from the airport to be fairly easy taking the line 5 bus directly to the Piazzo Roma and then the #2 Vaporetto to the Rialto bridge. We had an ipad with us so we were able to GPS our way to the hotel. At best Venice can be difficult with all the alley ways to get twisted around in. TIP if you are taking the bus from the airport and then the bus or vaporetto get a day pass - it allows access to buses and the vaporetto lines. Our friends were in the actual hotel in a very small room. The bed appeared to be a 3/4 not even a double. Their bathroom was very small and difficult for a tall person to sit on the toilet and slide the door shut. Our room was across the alley from the main hotel, much larger with two twins pushed together with a new and larger bathroom. Nothing fancy, basic and tired but for one night and location ok. Found the breakfast to be adequate and plentiful. GREAT location for the price.

The best thing about the hotel is it's location, close to The Rialto Bridge.
The entrance was dingy with well worn fittings. The bedroom was small, but that is what we expect in a 2star city hotel. The bathroom was another matter, it was so small you had to sit on the loo sideways (I'm 5ft tall), having the door closed when using the sink was a tight squeeze, however the shower was a reasonable size. The first morning there was no hot water, when this was mentioned to a member of staff, "so many people take showers". The following day the cold tap on the shower didn't work, a very hot shower is not a good idea in temperatures of 35 degrees. This was reported at the reception later being told that it had been fixed. The following day no cold water in the shower.
The breakfast was disappointing - juice tasted like cheap squash, hard bread rolls or white sliced bread, horrible coffee, a reasonable selection of meat and cheese.

What can one say, in booking at Hotel Malibran you should be prepared for a three star hotel decorated in an old venetian style. We found the room to be all that we needed as it was basically just a place to crash after a long day of touring the streets of venice.
The location was perfect as it was located close to rialto bridge and therefore made it easy to find our way. The staff were fantastic, they were all very friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was great, a nice selection and so nice to sit out in the courtyard. I think for a one or two night stay in venice this hotel is great. A added pro was that the hotel was close to Bacaro Jazz, a great little bar.

I know that bad reviews on tripadvisor need to be taken with a grain of salt, but check my other reviews and you will see that I am generally very fair.

We booked 4 rooms at this hotel three nights over summer, and were very, very disappointed. To start with, the hotel is at least a half an hour walk from the train station, so be prepared to drag your luggage up and down flights of stairs and bridges in the venice heat if you go in summer. Secondly, the hotel took us at least an hour to find, and none of the locals had heard of it. Once we got to the hotel it had a nice little courtyard with a nice looking restaurant outside. The lobby was clean and inviting. The lift up to the rooms was tiny and was reminiscent of fawlty towers. My partner and I were so unimpressed with our room that we dreaded going back to it. It was damp, dank and dingy, with filthy fixtures and rock hard beds. It looks like a room you would expect to see in a 1* American motor inn, we joked that we expected the walls to start bleeding, although I'm not quite sure it was all said in jest.
In the hotel's defence, the breakfast was quite nice, and the location wasn't too bad when you eventually get to it, and two of the other rooms our party had booked were much better, located in the newer section of the hotel. If we had stayed in one of those, perhaps our experience would have been better. It was also fairly reasonably priced when compared to other 3* hotels on venice island. These redeeming features however, are still not enough for me to give this hotel more than one star.
