For my first foray into Venice, I assumed that the best option was to stay as close to St. Mark's Square as possible - this was one of the only reasonably-priced rooms available even remotely close to there, esp. as they have cheaper single rooms. There are both pro's and con's to this hotel. Pro: It is tucked into an alley just around the corner from St. Mark's, which means the convenience of getting to attractions, shops, restaurants and vaporettos within a minute. Con: It also means shoving your way past ridiculous hordes of people if you have baggage - this is the most crowded part of Venice. The fixtures/furnishings in the rooms are on the older side and the rooms are tiny, but you have everything you need, like air-conditioning and a hot shower, and I was able to get a decent night's sleep. Front desk was helpful enough and the included breakfast was a nice surprise, albeit spartan. I'd recommend this for a quick one-or-two night stay in Venice where you can be in the heart of the action and will probably never be in the room anyway, but not really for a longer stay. The rationale behind staying here is basically going to be whether you want to spend a lot more or are fine dealing with basic accomodations to save some money.
