Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino
Ranked #134 of 387 Hotels in Venice
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 6, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Commercio & Pellegrino on our fall trip to Venice. The hotel is located on a narrow side street right off of the Grand Canal and next to Piazza St. Marco. Our room was very attractive, but rather dark due to the fact that the street it where it is located is very narrow.

I would recommend this hotel because the desk staff is so helpful. We were trying to take water taxi's around Venice and we found the system rather confusing. They were very helpful and were able to answer all our questions (in English).

The morning breakfast that was included with the booking was very good and the small dining area was very comfortable.

Other than the hotel we found Venice disappointing. The crush of people (far more than should safely be allowed) was oppressive and made walking difficult and uncomfortable. Because of the flooding in St. Marks Square, we had to walk on raised walkways which made moving around even more difficult. The city looks like it will eventually be under water.

Room Tip: Pick a street front room if possible.

We stayed here for one night pre-cruise in November. The location cannot be beat - an easy walk from the Allilaguna stop and right near St. Marks Square. The room was clean and the price was right, but the beds were firm and the bathroom was very tiny. It was also very noisy at night from restaurants below which kept us up.

We arrived the day before the America's Cup was to begin. So, the normal water taxi stop next to the hotel was closed. No worries . . .a little extra walking didn't dampen our spirits! This small hotel is behind Piazza San Marco and is a perfect location. Nice, quiet location. The staff was very helpful. They offered a terrific breakfast buffet which was a great start to our wonderful stay in Venice. The hotel room was small but well appointed and absolutely clean. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We booked Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino last minute for a quick stay in Venice based on 1. great price 2. past reviews and 3. location. My husband and I arrived late by train after a long day of traveling. We were extremely pleased with how easy it was to arrive. The water bus has a station directly in front of the train station. Take the water bus to St Marks square stop and it is only a few blocks walk to the hotel. Easy even with luggage.

The hotel is located on a side street, very convenient for walking and sightseeing. Reception was very nice and use of the Internet at the lobby computer was very easy. The rooms were clean and typically sized. The bathroom was modern, clean and had plenty of space. Breakfast was modest and sufficient.

We were very pleased with this hotel and I would definitely recommend this hotel. It was perfect for a one night stay. Only if I were staying longer than a couple nights, I may look into investing in something else.

We stayed here for 4 nights first week of October '12. It was just in from our vaporetto stop San Zaccaria and only two bridges to St mark's Square...the latter being the Bridge of Sighs. Be aware that there is one walk bridge to go over before you turn into the very narrow Calle. Our twin bedroom was at the back ( asked for that, so not any noise). It was not a large room and a bit dated but suited Venice...the room was tidied everyday and fresh linen provided. The breakfast was included but basically a continental and there is only a lounge suite in the door opposite reception and a small dining area off it.... But as we were out more than in, this really suited our needs and it was good to know we had informative staff on duty 24/7. Being two women, we had no problems walking around the area at night and the street outside had plenty of shops, a few restaurants and cafes on the inland corners. Further up and to the right there is a pharmacy. We were given a pleasant first night restaurant information which was booked thru the reception and we appreciated that.
I found it homely in the sense that we weren't in a overly large hotel and everyone was friendly and helpful.

This hotel is ideally situated only a few minutes walk from the Doge' s Palace and St Mark's Square. Our room was a good size and had an en suite with shower. Continental breakfast was all we needed and we found plenty of choice with yogurt, cheese, cold meat, croissants, rolls, juice and tea or coffee. We found reception staff and breakfast staff friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and comfortable and suited us as we were there to see Venice not spend time in a hotel room.

We stayed at this hotel recently, after choosing it from Trip Advisor reviews. We would have to say it was in a superb location, only a couple of minutes walk from San Marco and the waterbus stop of San Zaccariah (or San Marco) on the Grand Canal. Hauling luggage and finding the hotel should be no problem to any age group. We found accommodation in Venice was very expensive, so chose this hotel which seemed a little more reasonable than many. It was a small family run hotel, very friendly helpful English speaking staff, very clean and nicely decorated rooms, and a good breakfast. There was also a lift, which isn't all that common in historical buildings. We would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for modest clean and slightly classy accommodation at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: I suspect all rooms, like ours, were fairly compact and very presentable.
