We stayed here for the first night of our trip to Venice. We had a room in he annex part of hotel which was sufficient to our needs. Room was quite small but had all you need with its own toilet, basin and shower. Double bed was two singles pushed together.
Breakfast was good compared to most Italian continental versions with cold meats, cheese, apples and the usual cakes etc. with ample juice and coffee.
It is situated in a quiet area of Venice but perfect for visiting the Peggy Guggenheim as we did after breakfast and beating all the afternoon crowds.!!
To cross over to St.Marks use the dedicated Gondola service for only 2 euro each.

Room Tip: If you want a better standard room ask to be put up in hotel and not annex.

Hotel Messner is located in a quiet position in Dorsoduro, one stop across the Grand Canal to Santa Marco! Our room (32) was situated in an annex building about 100 yards from the reception and Restaurant which didn't cause any problems, and was quite sufficient for our needs, the room was a good size (for a city hotel) very warm, clean and had plenty of hot water, what more do you need? Breakfast was the usual continental fayre - Tea /Coffee, Juices, Croissants, Cake, Bread Roll, Cheese , Ham, Preserves, Yoghurt and Fresh Fruit, again, nicely presented and quite adequate. Reception was always very helpful with any requests which we had. We also ate in the restaurant on our first evening, this again was fine for pizza and pasta and a bottle of 'Red'! Staff again were very attentive and pleasant. So, all in all, if you're wanting to be away from the hustle of the main areas, this hotel is a great choice!

I am ane international writer around the world 34 countries in 4 years writing a book on culture and loved the place.
Okay if you want a family friendly boutique 14th century real Venetian Hotel come to Hotel Messner...the very first day the one receptionist(there is about 6 of em all funny guys)is multi-tasking with talking to me shuffling papers and yelling and handing the phone to a group of young girls giggling on the settee in the lobby, Jo-Jo personally walks you to your room in one of three villas right on the canal and shows you how to open doors, Mr.Bruno offers you a free cafe the minute you walk in and invites you to chat with friends at the little cafe bar, and the owner Mr Alessandro invites you to breakfast chats and muliti-tasks...and the rooms are adorable modern with little modern flat screen tvs and beautiful walls and decor plus the first night there was a group of about 10 children and their teacher all doing little pow-wows in the villas main room making masks and doing Merchant of Venice lessons til all hours of the night...all you heard is their masks choices and giggling...lovely a family atmosphere

Room Tip: ask a bigger room with canal view or a suite

It looks like the place has recently been renovated. If so, they've done a good job. Our room was clean and comfortable if a little cramped and quite dark (to be fair, cheap well-lit rooms in Venice are probably hard to find). A big bonus was the free WIFI - I had expected to pay - which helped us plan our visit.

The breakfasts are good with a self-service buffet of cold meats, cheese, breads, pastries and cereal (the only hot stuff is the tea and coffee).

The hotel itself is a few minutes walk from the Salute waterbus stop and is in a surprisingly good location in the Dorsoduro: it's quiet, isn't drowning in tourists and most of the main sights are in easy striking distance.

The only slightly weird thing is that many of the rooms are in annexes in separate buildings. Practically this makes no difference but some people may find that a little odd.

We always try to stay at the Messner when we visit Venice. We stay in the hotel itself, room had a balcony overlooking the Canal. The location of the hotel is great- just a short walk to the Academia bridge, a truchetto stop, the Guggenheim, and lots of restaurants . And all this without the crowds or noise of Venice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the hotel with a canal view. We once had a room with our own bath but it was down...

Just returned from a 4 night stay (24-28th January 2013). Lovely location in quite area but very close to Salute Waterbus stop. Excellent room with ensuite and very comfy bed. We were in the annexe just 50 metres from main hotel. Our room had three big windows overlooking the canal and was perfect. Strolled along canal for breakfast which was self service ham, cheese, cereal, cakes, croissants, fruit juice and various coffees from a machine. The staff were lovely as were the hotels location and the hotel itself. I would certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone

Room Tip: Room 41 in the annexe has three lovely big windows overlooking the canal
