We stayed at Hotel Bernardi during the hot summer month of August. Thankfully, they had air conditioning, which kept the room cool. We were told we would have a small double bed to share, but were pleasantly surprised to have an extra twin bed in the room. The room was fairly large for this class of hotel/pensione. It had an armoire and a sink... would have liked a towel rack, but there wasn't one.
We had a shared bathroom. The bathrooms were clean and nice.
Our shuttered windows faced one of Venice's alleyways and the view was quaint.
Be sure to mention Frommer's when booking, and you'll receive a discount.
I read about previous posts claiming rate disputes, so I had mine on hand, prepared for a problem. However, there was no problem. They gave us the rate quoted.
However, our rate did not include breakfast. We had to pay extra. The breakfast was prepackaged food. I would have preferred to spend the same amount in a cafe.
The location is good. We walked there from the train station; you can also walk to Rialto and San Marcos. Also, there is an internet cafe directly across the street.
Compared with other hotels that cost about the same as Hotel Bernardi, I thought it was nice; it had a true reception area and lounge, breakfast area, internet, TV in the room, clean shared bathrooms and showers, large-ish rooms.
