This is my second stay at Hotel Bernardi in Venice. The first was good, the second was barely OK. Although I ordered a bottle of Prosecco (D.O.C) for our arrival, I received a warm bottle of Spumante instead. The remote control we were given for the A/C did not function with the unit, and it took a full day to correct the issue. We also did not have any hand towels in our room (we stayed in the annex).

The room was large and clean, and overall the property is not bad, but the staff didn't seem eager to correct the issues we had. Overall, I would recommend the hotel, but keep in mind, this is a budget hotel, 2 stars at best, so keep your expectations low.

Room Tip: Annex rooms are slightly larger, but away from the main hotel where breakfast, and more importantly...

Dear Dan,
we want to thank you for posting your opinion.
We are sorry if you had problems with A/C,and towels. We do change towels every day, perhaps the clinning lady forgot to put them in your room. Next time please, advise us, we could have solved this issue very fast.

It was definitely a "budget" hotel - but we aren't too picky as long as it's clean and functional, which it was. The location for the price worked very well for us. Easy 3 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge, 10 minutes to San Marco and the Accademia. Complimentary breakfast was just ok. We aren't picky, so it worked for us just fine, and there's no way we could have paid as little and stayed down near San Marco or San Croce. So I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed in a double Room 306 in the "Annex". The room was well proportioned, clean, and outfitted with A/C and a safe. Even though the bathroom was outside of the room (and therefore technically "shared"), it was dedicated solely to our room, which was good. The room was relatively inexpensive (140 euro for two weeknights) compared to other cities in Italy and therefore worth the money.

Our one complaint echoes what others have said about the hotel not being clear at booking about their room being in the annex and then being surprised when the desk clerk takes them to the annex (which is not called the same thing as the hotel on the door or on the map they give you). This confusion and surprise could all be eliminated if they were clear at booking which building you were in.

I think in the end it was probably better as I think the annex was likely quieter than the hotel itself. The hotel is on an alley with a few not-super rowdy bars that are open on the later side, whereas the annex is tucked farther back from the main square.

Breakfast was sugary and blah, but not any different from budget hotel/pension breakfasts in Italy.

Room Tip: It's extremely hard to figure out which room you are booking on the website. Best to email them...

We know Venice is expensive, but it would be nice if you are paying 200 euros a night to get at least some friendly service. The staff was the worse in our 6 city tour of Italy. I will say the location was very good and the room was bigger than average but that is the only reason why I rated as high as average. The noise was even worse than expected.

Room Tip: try to find a cheaper place

We wanted to stay in Venice For a reasonable price. For this, the hotel fit the bill perfectly. The room itself was adequate. We didn't plan on spending too much time there so the small size of the rooms was fine. The beds were firm, but we are ok with that. Be advised that the shower is tiny. If you are, in any way, a larger person this could be a real problem. My 6'1" 180lb husband had a bit of a challenge closing the odd plastic door and being able to move around enough to get clean. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant directly across the street - Osteria la Bottegha ai Promesi Sposi. Best meal we've had in Italy. A hotel across the street was perfect after their lemoncello.

We picked this hotel, because we were recomended by a couple of friends. My general opinion, its overpriced for what they offer, but then, all Venezia is expensive.
We stayed two nights, both in which we were constantly interrupted by any noise that got amplified in the in the corridors... so sleeping was awfull. Moreover, breakfast was not what expected.

Dear guest
thanks for your comment, and the time you dedicated to us.

We are sorry if you couldn't sleep very well, but Venice, is a very special city, and all the walls and palaces are made in wood, it is very difficult to obtain a perfec insonorisation but we will do our best to improve it.

About the breakefast, thanks to all your comments, we are doing it better! We do serve hot cappuccino, caffè espresso, milk, american caffè, green and black the, orange juice, hot chocolate, fresh breade , croissanes, cakes, butter, chocolate, different tipes of jam, cheese, yougurt..
