“Comfortable hotel, but a very small room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

This hotel is in a great location, being close to the main sight-seeing attractions, a good supermarket, the Grand Canal, water taxis etc. The room was clean and comfortable, but very small (the bathroom was also very small). It also seemed quite dark, due to the décor (patterned wallpaper on every wall). There was a tiny, triangular balcony which overlooked the courtyard / schoolyard – good for some fresh air. A refundable deposit was required for the key to the safe in the room. The breakfast area was also quite small – the food on offer was fairly basic and limited, but adequate, considering that the Hotel Belle Arti is a three-star hotel. There is a comfortable under-cover area adjacent to the entrance to the hotel with a number of couches and arm chairs. The nearby courtyard is a pleasant, sunny area, with tables, chairs and umbrellas. There are lots of lovely shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

My ipad, wallet and computer were stolen from luggage room in Belle Arti Hotel which is supposed to be under staff's control!!! Staff didn't show any interest in helping! We were told cameras don't work and police cannot check records! Plus very weird, only mine and my friend's luggage was open and things stolen. Everyone's else luggage was not touched and this gives impression that someone in the hotel who has seen what goods we have in our room is involved in this affair! Worst experience ever!

I liked the location of the hotel. It had nice room with walls covered with venetian wall carpet. The best part of the room is the open balcony for more quieter moments. The hotel also has nice garden where I could meet my friends and visitors. The hotel is 10minutes walk from San Marco,Doursoduro,Rialto Bridge and just 50meters from both Accademia bridge and vaporetto stop which connects you to main attractions and main land respectively. Over all nice experience!

We love the location of this hotel, as well as it's charming garden.
But that does not come close to redeeming
--the size of the room (my husband and I can lie in bed the touch the wall on each side of us
--the size of the shower door opening (neither of us are over weight or particularly big people, but we have to turn sideways to make it into the shower; we couldn't help wondering how often guests get stuck in the door :-)
--the rudeness of the staff (annoyed reluctance to lower the temperature in our room, which only can be adjusted from the main desk and automatically turns off if one opens the window to look out, refusal to give coin change for a 5 Euro note, etc.)
We definitely plan to return to Venice, but not to the Hotel Belle Arti.

The room was nice, clean, quiet small and with walls covered in venetian wall carpets. Not really my kind of thing but my girlfriend loved it.

The hotel has a nice outside lounge area as well
.
The location is near the Accademia bridge and vaporetto stop, not very far from the San Marco square.

Check-in was handled quickly and correct, but the staff could have been a bit friendlier.

Breakfast was dissapointing. Many people and not enough tables, choice of food limited. Many empty plates and slow replenishing. Strict old lady 'managing' the coffee machine.

We paid 80 euro for one night with breakfast trough booking.com

Room Tip: We stayed in room 209, which was okay.

*I would like to start by saying that this was our first time in Venice so I have nothing to compare it with.... But

ROOMS -
We stayed with family friends and booked 2 single rooms and a double. Having booked 6 months prior we thought that we would be in the main hotel, but no, we were across the laneway in another building. Not a big deal though.
The rooms are 'Venetian' style with material covering all walls. Same colour on walls, floors, couch etc.
The rooms were very small and very .... Red. Dark red. Red carpet, walls, cupboards, couch, beadhead....everything except the ceiling and the white sheets thank god. It made the room very dark and feel smaller.
There is a window you can open but there are no fly screens - therefore letting a million mosquitos in.
We also had to ask reception for more pillows because the ones you get are flat and hard. And for fly spray for the mosquitos.
Doors lock but only 1 key per room (we asked).

NO AIR CON - actually they told they do not turn it on this early to 'reduce their environmental footprint'. It was warm when we were there (in May). No fan was offered. Rooms stuffy and hot at night.

NO HOT WATER if you shower past 8am (our friends had warm showers earlier in the morning). I did not have 1 warm shower the whole 3 days we were there!

BREAKFAST - tinned fruit, yoghurt, 3x cereals, bread dinner rolls, ham, salami, cheese, and sometimes croissants. Coffee and hot chocolate etc.
Basic but everything you need.

COURTYARD - this could be the hotels saving grace as it is lovely to have somewhere quiet to sit in the sun/shade.
Apparently a garden is a luxury in Venice (?).

WIFI - will cost you 5€ for the code. Only available in the courtyard and reception (not in rooms).

LOCATION - although I can't compare, it did seem to be an ok location. Although I think everywhere in Venice is walkable... No canal views. Quiet and nearby restaurants are at reasonable prices (compared to Venice prices). Closeby bus stop which is convenient.

OVERALL - not cheap, and for the price we paid -
1x $720 for 3 nights in a 'double room' (the size of a normal hotel room and we had a small couch),
and 2x $660 for the other 2 rooms that were not much bigger then the bed itself, same beds in all 3 rooms anyway.
Not worth it. I'm sure you can find better in Venice.
