“Good location but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2006

We just returned from staying at the Saturnia for 2 nights and thought that the location was convienent to St. Mark's square and the bathroom quite large but that the bed was terribly uncomfortable. For the money, I wouldn't stay here again and would surely ask to not be placed near the restaurant due to the loud noises heard each evening/morning.

Other tips: If you do stay here, take the #82 (make sure it goes to San Marco) public transport (5 Euros/pp) and walk just a few minutes (will need to cross one small bridge) to the hotel. It's not a 15 min walk and is very doable. Don't eat near the touristy areas near the square or Rialto bride (the food is very pricey and the worst I've had in Italy in 2 weeks). Walk away from there areas and find a smaller, more intimate restaurant (we enjoyed the Ristorante de Carla recommended by Rick Steves). Two days are enough in Venice and there is no need to go to the Correr Museum. The gelato at the La Boutique del Gelato also wasn't worth the search.

Booked a family room and a single room . The family room seemed good value and was certainly spacious being on two floors. The single room was expensive and rather disappointing although there was a view of a canal if you craned your neck! Altogether a lovely characterful hotel with lovely public areas furnished with antiques. Our family room was Art Deco in style although the stark lighting made it rather unwelcoming. The view was of a fire escape! The top floor was very hot so we opened the French windows which seemed to let in the mosquitos and our children were bitten badly! The breakfasts were excellent - the best I've had in Italy. Excellent location. Lovely roof terrace where we ate one lunchtime (purchased at local street kiosk!!)

The hotel was a 5 min walk from the Doges Palace and pretty much anything you need to see in Venice. Absolutely prime location, however, it was veryyyy expensive ($450/night) for what you're getting. The hotel is very small, and very old. The floors creak, the bed squeaks a lot, and it has that old smell in the room. You feel like you're in an ancient house. The buffet breakfast was very good (and included). The concierege was very helpful. I wouldn't stay here again for this price, Venice is pretty small, so if you're a little farther away, it's not that big of a deal. Plus, the ride anywhere is on water, so it's nice.

This hotel is truly located in the heart of Venice. It's very pretty. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The standard king room is small with no real view, but pretty, clean, and has all the necessary amenities. Air conditioner works with limited strength. Water taxi pulls up right in back of hotel, but the cost fr the airport is very hefty (apprx 100-120 euros). The water taxi will take up to 4 people....arrange to split ride if possible. The waterBUS (11 euros/pp) is an option, but a pretty painful one. It takes about an hour to get to the San Marco piazza (makes several other stops along the way), and then you'll have to drag your bags thru the streets to get to the hotel...approx. 15 minute walk thru chaos of people and outside merchants. FYI....water taxi to train station is 65 euros, and takes all of 10 minutes. Ask hotel staff if they have other people going to train station, and offer to split water taxi ride. The hotel will NOT offer this as an option...you will have to ask. The restaurant in the hotel, The Caravella, is very good, but also pricey. All-in-all, our stay at this hotel was very enjoyable and recommended. Two nights in Venice is sufficient.

From the rave reviews on TripAdvisor, I expected more from this hotel. I have traveled to Europe before and I was aware that the hotel rooms were smaller than American hotels, but I was still surprised by the size and quality. The bed was hard and the room was damp. The bathroom might as well have been a closet (you could use the toilet and brush your teeth at the same time without stretching). We didn't attempt to use the air conditioning since we read other reviews stating it didn't work. We opened the windows and that kept the room cool but expect mosquitos. The restuarant, La Caravella, was very good but pricey. Don't eat there on a busy night because they'll forget about you and you'll be stuck waiting around.

The best part was the breakfast. A wonderful spread that was very inviting. The staff was polite, but seemed like they had their own agenda. I wouldn't stay here again.

2 rooms, and 5 people, averaging over $300 a night per room. No air conditioninng despite unseasonably hot Venice weather. When the desk was asked, they merely shrug sholdiers. Yes, opening the window was great, except the hotel has no screens and the mosquitos simply ate us alive!!! Plus, the noise around the hotel and espcially, one of our rooms which shared proximity with the hotel restaurant resulted in smoking coming up into our windows and having to hear the help dump garbage (including crashing empty wine bottles) each evening after midnight!

Yes, the location is great, the rooms were fairly nice and breakfast above average. Please decline the so called "free" hotel tour to Murano and Burano. Its nothing other then a sales pitch, and to boot, once it was over, we were stranded on Burano being forced to either take a 100 euro taxi or que up for the crowded pulblic transportation home. When I complained at the desk, the reply was, somebody must have forgotten to tell youl

As I said, the hotel should have been better, and I will not return again.
