This Hotel is a gem hidden away from the heavily populated areas but easily reached and within comfortable walking distance of St. Mark's Square. The staff was more than accommodating to the extent that one of the front desk persons( a gentleman) actually left his post to walk us to the restaurant he had suggested for dinner! It was delicious by the way! Staff made reservations for our water taxis and a night at the Opera in an old palace...what a treat. We stayed for four nights, left for a seven day cruise, then returned for one night before returning to the San Francisco area.Jada at the Front desk made us feel very welcome and taken care of. The porter carried our many(too many) suitcases to meet the water taxi twice with a smile on his face despite the heavy load and stayed with us until we had safely boarded and were on our way. I will return to Venice and I can't wait to return to La Fenice des Artistes...........a grateful guest

I have stayed in the hotel for 4 nights. If you plan to stay there please call them before to confirm that they have received your reservation with all the details. I have booked a room with a kingsize bed and Internet connection but on arrival I was allocated a room with two small beds and without Internet connection. The consierge was so kind to change my room to the one with kingsize bed but there were no rooms with Internet connection. They advertise this hotel as having free Internet connection in all rooms. The reality is that free internet means 15 min a day and only in the hotel lobby. They also advertise the hotel as providing buffet breakfast but this means only cold stuff. If you are after eggs you would have to pay extra. The highest score this hotel achieves is in cleansness and excellent staff manners.

My husband booked this hotel as a birthday present and when we read the reviews about it we almost cancelled but what a mistake that would have been. We spent 2 nights here and loved every minute of our stay. The hotel is in a quiet square next to the Opera House in Venice. It is in a perfect spot to escape the crowds. The rooms and public areas are covered in interesting art works and there is even an accompanying brochure which explains them all. We were given a large room at the front of the hotel over the square and bar below. The room was almost like a suite with a seperate sitting area. Yes some of the decoration and furniture is dated but that is part of the hotel's charm. The room was clean and bright and we loved going back to it after long days taking in the sights of Venice. After a show one night we opened the windows to hear opera singers singing in the bar below and it was wonderful. Staff were courteous, helpful and efficient. Absolutely no complaints and if we ever returned to Venice this is where we would want to stay. Please do not be put off by poor reviews about this hotel. If you want modern, functional and boring then this is not the hotel for you but if you want an interesting piece of venice history and quality service you will love it like we did.

The location of this hotel is great. Quick to get to san marco square and easy to find on arrival. The room was well sized and clean. The hotel is a bit old, old antique furniture with venetian lights. Bathroom was small but adequate. Hotel provided a continental breakfast, juice, cereal, croissants. Has a lovely little courtyard where you can relax at the end of the day.

Apparently, many hotels in Italy hurriedly added hair dryers and a tv to their rooms before the jubilee in order to go from 3 to 4 stars. This one looks like they did. For the money and stars, the rooms should be cleaner and less worn, amenities be better, breakfast be more ample and staff more friendly. The location is good, but Venice is so compact (and packed with hotels), that you could find something else as good. If you have the time and disposition, you could even walk around and find a place with a vacancy. Not worth the money.

This is a lovely hotel in a good location: just a few minutes from all the major spots and easy to reach from the water bus stops. Our group had two single rooms and a twin room, each of which was well appointed, traditionally decorated (but NOT shabby) and clean. The twin room was on the top floor and with sloping ceilings and a very high window, so there was no view from the room - but then we didn't go to Venice to look out of a window! Views from the other rooms were lovely. One of the rooms didn't have a shower, but did have a bath. All in all the rooms were fine. Breakfast was also good: a buffet with bread, cheese, meat, fruit, cereal, yoghurts and as much coffee / tea / juice as you wanted. Do be careful of mosquitoes - we didn't leave our windows open, but still managed to play host and I have the scars to prove it!
The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a very pleasant lounge and a lovely little courtyard.
I guess the hotel might seem expensive for what it is - it isn't fabulously luxurious, but it's comfy, clean and friendly - and remember Venice IS expensive.
When arriving the easiest bus stop to reach the hotel from is San Angelo - just follow the instructions on the hotel website and you can't go wrong. This route includes just two bridges and is a much quieter route than approaching from San Marco - so it's easier to manage with suitcases. To reach San Angelo you will need the Alilaguna 'A' line from the airport: tickets can be bought in the airport for 13e each.
Useful websites: www.hellovenezia.com www.actv.it (these are both offical sites for the two bus companies)
http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/ (this appears to be an independent site and amongst lots of other useful information gives step by step instructions for getting from the airport and using the public transport system)

This hotel was a quick walk from San Marco and its environs- a tourists dream! The staff was also very helpful and made great recommendations to us.
Our room was on the first floor and had absolutely no view to speak of. It was nicely decorated in Venetian style with gold wallpaper and a glass chandelier. Because it was October, the air conditioner in the hotel was turned off, a circumstance which made the hotter days a bit uncomfortable. However, with the windows open during the night, the temperature came down and we were able to sleep comfortably. We were perfectly happy until we awoke the next morning to discover hundreds [no exaggeration] of mosquito bites all over our bodies. My husbands face was literally covered in small red bites. At first we thought he had been plagued by a second coming of acne hah! We understand that the hotel cannot be blamed for the mosquitoes... the windows do not have screens in Europe and mosquitoes are the price we must pay.
Aside from the bug bites, the room was more than adequate- a great size and with all the nice touches. The bathroom was bigger and seemed newly renovated. Breakfast was a bit shabby. For the price however, the hotel was great.
