We stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. Venice is expensive and we wanted to pick somewhere close to St Marks and reasonably priced. This hotel didn't disappoint us on both fronts. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was simple but the almond croissants were delicious!

I had always wanted to stay at Hotel La Fenice since reading about it in one of Karen Brown's earlier travel guides. Finally I did book 2 rooms for our family of 4. The cost was much more than expected but I decided to go ahead and book the rooms. I was extremely disappointed in the hotel and the rooms particularly for the exorbitant rate. The location is good. The breakfast mediocre. We visited Lake Garda, Florence, Tuscany and Rome on the same trip. Several of the hotels we booked were luxury hotels. All were physically more appealing and the rates were less even in Florence and Rome. Needless to say, we will not be returning to La Fenice.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing time! The staff were polite and helpful, the breakfast was very good, the room was gorgeous and clean. It is also close to San Marco's Square although was initially a little tricky to find. All in all a lovely hotel!

This is a peaceful little place right next to La Fenice (opera). I had a single room in mid-August, 2013, only 80 Euros, which for Venice is a bargain. Even a cheesy Holiday Inn Express with its vile breakfast in an American city costs more than this. The hotel incorporates three old buildings, so the rooms and hallways are a bit confusing but a lot of fun. Years ago, I stayed in a triple where the floor sloped and walls had odd angles. This time, my single was in the attic with exposed 1500s timbers. I heard opera coming out of the walls, especially in the toilet. Then downstairs, I saw photographs of Maria Callas - is she still singing in La Fenice? The breakfast buffet is very good and the staff very helpful. And the rooms are air conditioned, most welcome on a sultry August day. Rooms are immaculately clean. Highly recommended.

In the San Marco premisies, just a block away from the crowd is this peaceful hotel situated next to the Venice Opera House, with quiet en lovely rooms, a rather basici breakfastservice, but an excellent restaurant on the ground floor.

This hotel is in a good location (although it is hard to find initially) and is about a 5 minute walk from St Mark's square. The rooms are basic and clean and our air conditioning worked (which from other reviews we weren't expecting) so the room was nice and cool. We were lucky to get a canal view and it was nice to look out and see the gondolas going past.

The breakfast was dismal - dry bread, cereal, yoghurt, coffee and tea from a machine - you could have extras but there was an additional charge for these. There is no way any self-respecting 4 star hotel would offer such a limited choice of breakfast.

The receptionist we dealt with on check-in and checking-out was surly and abrupt - certainly not the welcoming. Also, be aware that you will be charged for a tourist tax when you leave - we expected this to be 2 euros per person per day but we were charged 4 euros per person per day.

Stayed here for 12 days. The location is great - a very short walk from Piazza San Marco and Ponte Rialto is not that far away. You can find Vaporetto stations very close if you want to visit Murano, Lido or the other islands. The room was nice and clean with a view to the the canal. Absolutely nothing to complain about it. The staff was very friendly and helpfull if you needed more information about anything. Breakfast was very typical but the cappuccino was better than in other hotels I have visited. So would I recommend this hotel - absolutely YES!
