“Best hotel keepers ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2009

This family of hotel keepers (they also own Locanda Orseolo near San Marco) are passionate about service. This family and their staff are incredible...We were blocked in Venice with the snow storms and we just had a great time because we felt at home with Matteo,Barbara, Rosalba etc...I forgot a couple of names but they were all extremely friendly. Both hotels are very nice (we stayed at both) and breakfast is marvellous. They will make you feel like you were part of their family...and yes, you will meet the whole family :)
There is only one comment appropriate for these hotels...WE WILL BE BACK

It's hard to describe the Hotel Pontico. It's not really a hotel, it's not really a Bed and Breakfast. What it is, is fabulous. From the minute we arrived by water taxi, I knew I had made a great decision booking this Hotel. We were greeted at the dock by Matteo, the owner who seems to put 200% effort into making each guests stay memorable. The staff goes out of their way to accomodate any need. They went out of their way to help track my missing luggage. We splurged and booked the Junior Suite..it was costly but worth every cent. The rooms sitting area opened out onto the Grand Canal with a canal level view of all the traffic! My husband and I enjoyed pulling up our chairs and sipping our wine while watching all the boats and gondolas pass by. The only drawback to the Junior Suite was the size of the bathroom. Otherwise it was wonderful. As mentioned in other reviews the breakfast were great as was the service staff. The location is perfect next to the Rialto Bridge and close to everything. I was a little afraid to go to Venice in November because of rain and cold. But after visiting I would only visit in the off season, crowds are sparce and rates are down. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Al Ponte Antico.

This hotel is very unique, defines its' own category. There is no hotel to compare to. The service is on a level we cannot describe in words, but priceless. The rooms are gorgeous, perfect to the slightest details. The food and drinks are impecable and so the advices of the owner Matteo where to go, what to see, where to eat. I just can recommend to everyone!

My family and I went to Venice for a short weekend break and after reading the preceding reviews decided to settle on the Al Ponte Antico.

I can honestly say that this was the best decision as the the hotel lived up to all the previous reviews. I can't really add much more to what has been said before other than Matteo and his team have mastered the art of personal service. The moment we stepped of the water taxi, we were greated by Armando who collected the luggage and checked us in, we were greeted by our first names from the moment we arrived until we left and from my perspective it made us feel extremely welcome. A few hours later we met Matteo (the owner), who spoke at length to us about everything in Venetian. This man is an absolute gentleman, he has dedicated himself to perfecting the art of service and his recommendations for eating, walks or anything else in Venice were impecable. His passion for good food, fine wine and the culture of the city were evident in every conversation we had.

The hotel itself is small yet perfectly positioned, it was set back from the main street outside and noise was never an issue. Just to sit on the terrace drinking Oliver's spritzs' whilst watching the boats go by on the Grand Canal was bliss in itself. You are within easy striking distance of just about every major attraction in Venice, San Marco Square was no more than ten minutes walk away and the nearest Vaparreto was next to the Rialto Bridge and this was five minutes away.

The hotel itself was small yet opulently decorated in the traditional Venetian style. Breakfast (included in the price) is superb with a mix of fresh pastries, cold meats and cakes all followed by eggs (any style) cooked by Matteo himself. The staff ultimately make this the place you want to stay. Matteo, Oliver, Anando, Thomas and David were all superb. How often do you come back from a holiday and know the names of everyone who looked after you? If you like the personal touch and enjoy a home from home enviroment then I thoroughly recommend this hotel. Matteo and his team deserve all their success both now and in the future and I can't wait until his new hotel opens in Tuscany.

Myself and my husband just returned from a 3 night break at this wonderful hotel. We were treated like royalty from the moment we entered the hotel. Mateo and his staff are wonderfully welcoming and they did everything to make our stay warm and welcoming,
We both travel extensively and stay in hundreds of hotels every year. This hotel is the best we have ever stayed in. Thank you for the wonderful memories, Julie anne and Stephen

We stayed here at the begining of November for 3 nights as a celebration for our's and our friends anniversaries and had a marvelous time. It well deserves all the lovely things that are said about the hotel, the staff and the location.

We arrived by water taxi at the hotels own entrance from the Grand Canal, at the recommendation of Matteo, who I had spoken to before we arrived. He also made a reservation for us at a fantastic restaurant for the night of our arrival, as it was a Saturday and we had heard that it might be difficult to get into restaurants if you hadn't booked on the weekends. His courteous and friendly manner set the tone for the whole trip.

The staff were always happy to help you, whether advising on where to go around Venice, or serving a wonderful glass of wine in the evening, enjoying the view of the rialto from the sitting area.

Breakfast was enjoyable, always plentiful and Matteo's famous egg dishes were cooked to perfection.

The loction of the hotel is great, every important site easily accessible by a few minutes walk, and arriving down the Grand Canal makes you feel like a VIP. There are even umbrellas to borrow, as it rained for 2 of the 4 days we were there, at least we got to walk on the raised platforms!

The rooms are decorated to a very high standard and always clean, we stayed in a classic room. The only niggle could be that they are slightly on the small side, but please do not be put off. I've heard most of Venices hotel rooms are like this and you don't spend that much time there as you've got the wonderful city to explore.

Overall, this is a FANTASTIC place to stay, I would recommend it to all my friends and the praise for Matteo is deserved. He was helpful when needed, talked to us to keep us company if that was required and left us to ourselves when we wanted it. BRILLIANT.

Magic, magic, magic! Best service, most central, most delicious breakfast we had in Italy, and the room was out-of -this-world one-of-a-kind. We immediately felt like Family. Treat yourself to this wonderful boutique hotel. You will not be sorry. It will be the only place we will ever stay in Venezia.
