Matteo and his team have crafted a truly exceptional hotel experience. Small, intimate, welcoming. Perfectly situated on the Grand Canal. More than anything, what stands out is the remarkable service from the ever visible owner Matteo, and all of his staff. I have stayed in many fine Italian hotels, this one stands heads and shoulders above them all from a service perspective. Would recommend without hesitation.

Imagine yourself arriving by boat at a hotel and being warmly received by the owner Matteo and his staff, and while being shown around you are passed by a guest who is leaving and says to you, "you are going to love it here; I just wish we could stay." You are ushered into a palatial looking dining room, shown an equally elegant large bedroom, and then taken to see the piece- de-resistance, a lovely balcony set up café style facing the Grand Canal, right next to the Rialto Bridge. The land-based side of the hotel faces on an area of shops, cafes and restaurants, with short easy access to any and all sights and landmarks you may want to visit while in Venice.
If you wish to stop imagining and actually make this a reality, you need only book a room at this hotel. You will be delighted with the wonderful breakfast prepared by Matteo and his staff, (which included omelets made to order), served either in the elegant dining room, or eaten on the balcony while enjoying the spectacular view of the Grand Canal. My husband and I have the gracious Matteo and his very helpful staff to thank for a wonderful week spent at this special hotel during the month of June, 2014.

Have to concur with previous reviews that this is a fantastic hotel for a stay in Venice both for service and location. My husband and I stayed here for three nights at the beginning of June as part of a trip to Italy. Having taken a water taxi from the railway station to the hotel we arrived at their private landing on the Grand Canal to be greeted warmly by Matteo and this set the tone for the rest of our stay there. He showed us to our room which was Room 101 one the first floor, just off the main lounge/breakfast area with views on to the Grand Canal. We had been travelling all day and Venice was very hot so we were so glad to walk into a wonderfully cool room (great air conditioning). If you are looking for a bright modern hotel then this is not for you but if you are looking for a hotel with an atmosphere and sense of Venice then this is the place. The room was large and quite grand with high ceiling, beams, tapestry on the walls and a wonderful chandelier. There was a dressing area off the bedroom with wardrobe and chair. The bathroom was also large with a shower which was on the small side but quite powerful, bathrobes and slippers. Just outside our room was the lovely terrace overlooking the Grand Canal and looking onto the Rialto Bridge - what better view could you wish for. It was perfect for breakfast, (plenty of choice from the buffet and eggs or sometimes pancakes cooked to order, plus the best cappuccino from the wonderful coffee machine on the bar!) watching the canal come alive with traffic and also perfect for an after dinner drink in the evening when the lights were on along the canal. Although our room overlooked the canal and was next to the terrace we were never bothered by noise and found it remarkably quiet at night.
In fact the whole hotel was a quiet oasis as soon as you entered the alley leading to reception leaving the crowds behind.
The hotel is classed as four star but the service is five star. Matteo and all his team were fantastic. They always greeted us by our first names and nothing was too much trouble. We had asked for recommendations for eating and the two restaurants that were recommended were very good - testament that you can eat well in Venice! They were Algiubagio and Ostaria da Rioba (reviewed separately) and the hotel staff made reservations for us and gave us detailed instructions on how to find them. They were also happy to tell us the best way to get to the places that we wanted to visit. The hotel itself is in a great location for walking to several attractions, eg St Marks Square and easy access to vaparetto stops and if you do get slightly lost you just have to look for signs for the Rialto.
Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Thank you to Matteo and his great staff for making our short stay in Venice at your lovely palazzo so memorable.

Wow! We stayed here for two nights at the start of a 10-day Italy trip and were so glad we did. What a gem of a hotel. I feel like I shouldn't even call it a hotel since Matteo and his entire staff honestly made us feel like it was our home. I've never experienced anything like that before. Matteo is the most incredible owner - he was there all the time making sure we had a great experience. And all of the staff were exceptional - it truly was the best service I've ever had at a hotel. The location is perfect - a quick walk to San Marco and to a fun neighborhood at night across the canal - but best of all were the views - sigh! We realized very quickly whether having a cup of coffee in the morning or grabbing a bottle of wine while sitting on the balcony, it was the best view in Venice. We choose one of the inner rooms because all we did was sleep in the room and the access to the balcony at all hours made it a no brainier in our mind. A small amount of rooms/guests made it feel intimate. Do yourself a favor and take a water taxi in from the airport if the weather allows - we felt like Rock stars pulling up to our own palazzo. Believe the great reviews and stay here. I am thrilled we did. Perfection. :)

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at the end of May. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and then taken up to the terrace for a drink whilst we waited for our room. We had booked the suite on the ground floor that has windows that open directly onto the Grand Canal. The view was superb and probably one of the best in Venice. The room was very large and had a lovely lounge area where you can watch people go by on the gondolas and boats along the Grand Canal. We had breakfast every morning on the terrace and Matteo cooked amazing crepes and omelettes.
Apart from the amazing view and location of the hotel, the thing that sets this hotel apart from the rest is the service. Nothing was too much trouble and Matteo, Alex, David recommended many good restaurants and also gave us very good directions to places that we were going to visit.
This is an amazing place to stay with fantastic service.

The other would be Mateo's other property Locanda Orseola. This family owns two properties in Venice and we won't stay anywhere else. The owner is the kindest, most service-focused property owner we have met and all of his staff are hand selected for their service attitudes. The Al Ponte Antico is perfectly located, just north of the Rialto bridge, and has the perfect patio overlooking the Grande Canal. The rooms are luxurious and the breakfast is tremendous but the personal service (they staff always greet the guests by name) sets this hotel apart. Trust the reviews - don't stay anywhere else.

I highly recommend this hotel. It is well-located, with views of the Rialto Bridge (if you pick the right room). We stayed on the ground floor overlooking the Grand Canal, and these are by far the largest and best two rooms in the hotel. The staff are extremely welcoming and treat guests with amazing respect. No staff member remained seated if we spoke to them at reception, they would always stand. Breakfast was always exceptional out on the beautiful terrace as you watch the world go by. The terrace was also a great place for a drink late (very late) at night. The hotel caters for arrivals in the wee hours of the morning as well with a welcoming drink on the terrace and dinner if required.
