“OLD WORLD CHARM”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

My wife and I along with our 2 grand-daughters spent 4 nights at the Girogione. It is is a first class small hotel. We had a loft room , with a king size upstairs and sleeper couch downstairs for the girls.
The location is great, easy walking to the major attractions. It is in a an area that is quite and confortable. The breakfast buffet is good. The girls loved the hotel.

The hotel was beautifully appointed. The decor is antique, but warm and pleasant. The rooms were beautiful and spacious and the location is a real plus, only a few minutes from San Marco's square (there are no Spanish steps in Venice, that's ROME!) yet in a residential and quite neighborhood, that offered a view on a less touristy part of the city.

The staff was courteous and knowledgeable (well, until you mention their internet access issue), but internet was a joke. Technically it was available in the garden and in a room downstairs, but we were never able to access it with the iPhones or iPad. In 2012 I expect a hotel that claims to have 4 stars to have internet everywhere and fast.

The buffet breakfast was delicious and served in the lovely garden, but the inability to check the news or to send some pictures as I sipped my coffee made the whole stay a bit disappointing.

This hotel felt very old world. The location was close to the Spanish Steps. Breakfast was lovely. We could never quite get the rooms sufficiently cool though. We had two rooms, but not even on the same floor which was not convenient for a family.

Fantastic hotel, easy walk to everywhere in particular the grand canal, and St Marks Square, and nice and quiet at the hotel itself, (apart from some banging which was renovations going on which we didn't see- better if this started after midday!)
If the weather is dry you eat your breakfast in a beautiful courtyard.
All the staff from manager to barman to cleaner were friendly, helpful and could not have done more for us. The reception staff were very polite and professional.
Room, lounge, dining area very well maintained and spotlessly clean. Good choice of food at breakfast, with lovely coffee!

Room Tip: 115 was nice

We had an interesting room with the main bed on a loft with a roll-away bed and sleeper sofa on the lower level along with the TV, minibar and bathroom. This was quite roomy and comfortable for the four of us since we were able to put the kids downstairs and have the upstairs to ourselves. The only downside is that you had to go down a flight of stairs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. The bathroom was modern with the full complement of shampoos, lotions, etc...

The location was good. It was not a very long walk to St. Marks Square and there are plenty of shops and restaurants very close to the hotel. Getting to and from the train station is a decent hike, particularly with luggage on a hot day. You can take the water bus to Ca d'Oro and walk from there but it is fairly expensive. Since there are no cars in the center of Venice, this will be the case for pretty much any hotel that isn't right next to the train station.

Breakfast at the hotel was included in the price of the room and was a nice buffet including pastry, cold cuts and cereal. They also had complementary ice tea and cookies in the afternoon which was great after walking around the city in the summer heat.

The wifi only worked in the lobby and even there it was too slow to be usable. It also required a code that you needed to get at the front desk that only lasted for a short period of time. It was also unfortunate that you have to be 18 to use the pool table. My teenage son and I really wanted to play.

My Husband & I stayed at the Hotel Giorgione in February 2012 for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. The staff made us so welcome, congratulating us and making us feel special. Our room was better than we could ever have hoped for, a suite with a lounge and bathroom on the ground floor, then up some open wooden stairs to a bedroom overlooking the lounge. The furnishings were very elegant in our room, and also throughout the hotel. It only takes 10-15 minutes to walk to St Mark's Square from the Hotel. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

Just returned from a three night stay in this lovely hotel. Service , location, breakfast , staff, cleanliness and value for money , would recommend this hotel to everyone , would love to stay there again. The staff made our 24 th wedding anniversary very special for us, thank you. If I had to find one small issue, is room size, small but the cleanliness , decor made up for the lack of size , the building is beautiful so please go and visit you will not regret it.
