We chose this due it's proximity to the train station as I didn't fancy carrying luggage through Venice after travelling from Paris via Milan (amazing station). The hotel is in a great location, 100 or so metres from the station up a small alley in an area that is buzzing all day and evening and yet in the hotel there is almost no noise (church bells excluded-this is Italy and some barking dogs-this is Venice).

The reception we got was first class, not only warm and friendly but genuine, checking how we were getting to the airport (we bought a 48 hour Vaporetto plus bus to airport ticket online before we left) and telling us that we could leave luggage here on the day of departure if we wished.

This is a "tardis" like hotel with a huge hall of a lounge/bar (check out the loo under the pulpit), nice rooms, we took a superior room and very nice it was too, nice terrace (bit nippy in November) and wide corridors.

Room had everything except tea/coffee. Free WiFi throughout the hotel (although it's a bit slow), good sized flat screen TV. Breakfast was good.

Our main criteria for rating an hotel is quality of sleep followed by service. I slept like a log but my wife found the beds too hard and as said, the service was first class

Great city centre Hotel that we would recommend and definitely stay in again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor and overlooking the rear

The best, but not the only good thing, about this hotel is that it is right next to the train station. This means you don't have to carry bags up and down stairs over bridges or try to take them on the vaparetto. But the hotel also has great charm and wonderful service. Behind the front desk Mirko (in partcular) and all of the staff went out of their way to assist us in planning our day and making restaurant reservations. Our ground floor room overlooking the courtyard (recommended by other trip advisors) was comfortable and a great value. The breakfast was also very good. One thing to note is that the hotel does not have laundry service so try to get your clothes cleaned before you get to Venice or after you leave.

I stayed with my girlfriend at Abbazia for 3 nights after looking at the reviews at TripAdvisor. We took the Standard Room, which was a bit small though clean, included:
- A miniature TV
- An A/C which didn't work
- 2 windows which we only opened briefly because of the noise coming from the street
- Warm though not hot water most of the time.

The door of the room hardly helped to block the sound from the hall and again, it didn't feel like there was enough air in the room, which wasn't a problem if we could just keep the window open, but because of the loud noise coming from the street (maybe you should ask for a back room) we couldn't.

The wireless internet reception was poor but worked. Almost all the power outlets in the room are located behind cabinets (bed and TV) so you had to move them to charge the phone/laptop.

The patio looked neglected and the building is currently being renovated from the outside, so there is much noise during the day which makes the whole patio concept irrelevant.

The breakfast is VERY disappointing. Continental is probably the right name for it, but the coffee is from machines, and nothing felt fresh.

The staff is very nice, I'll give them that. And the location of the hotel is excellent for those traveling with a car (you also get a discount as a hotel visitor for the parking lot).

All in all, an average minus hotel, hardly justifies the rank it current has.

Room Tip: Go for rooms which aren't facing the alley because of the noise. Go for a room better than stand...

This was my second stay at this lovely hotel. Just around the corner from the train station, and a major ferry stop so very easy to get around. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and spacious, breakfast was great. Look forward to my next stay here.

Lovely old hotel. Old convent converted for over night stays. Short walk from the train station which I found to be very convenient. Breakfast buffet supplied the basics and gave a good start to the day. Staff was very friendly & helpful. It seemed that they couldn't assist us enough. I'm a budget traveler but treated ourselves to a nicer accommodation then usual. Very please that I choose HOTEL ABBAZIA for that experience. If I ever make it back to Venice, I'll stay here again.

Just spent 3 nights in Venice at Hotel Abbazia, location was perfect as so accessible to water taxi, buses and trains. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff who all spoke great English and came to our rescue with welly boots due to the flooding. Buffet breakfast went down well and had a great stay. perfect on all accounts.

Great hotel. It was a Monestery, tall ceilings and windows, large room and bathroom, wide marble hallways and steps, beautiful garden and heavy wood work throughout the building. Short walk from the Piazzale Roma--buses and taxis and 200 ft from the Grand canal. Only one bridge to cross. Close to shops and resturants and the water taxis. The Front desk was very helpful. Good breakfast. I would recommend this and stay there again. It was sad to see all the other tourist hauling luggage all down the cobble stone streets and across the bridges especially if you have a carry-on and a suitcase. Only drawback was no elevator but only 3 floors. Another review said to pick up an ACTV for the buses and water taxis and that would be a good thing to do to avoid the bridge plus use the water taxis for the whole time.
