Having chosen Ca' dei Polo only by the hundreds of raving reviews here on TA, I didn't expect any bad surprises coming in this pleasantly located B&B, just a couple minutes away from Piazzale Roma, where buses and cars stay away from the city.
Having said that, the Ca' dei Polo was a very good find, either from how helpful and knowledgeable and kind owner Stefano and staff Francesca have been during the trip, or from the amazing quality of the service. The room I was in was very clean, smelled very good, the bed is just heaven on earth after a whole day walking the streets of Venice and while the bathroom is small, it has the convenience that one seeks when wanting a quick hot shower or a face washed.
The breakfast is just huge, you have so many choices in food, sweet or salty, or both, ranging from cereals, pastries, jams, ham, salami, eggs, several fruit juices that you're compelled to try each and every one of them everyday. Being someone who loves walking a lot around the cities I visit, it's great for the energy keeping.
Stefano and Francesca were of a great help during this 2013 edition of the Venice Carnival, printing schedules or giving me tips and ideas on Venice on various subjects such as restaurants, events, sights, art, ...
On the other services that the Ca' dei Polo provides, the Wi-Fi is good and free and even if you have to check in or check out before/after the standard hours, the staff is very flexible and nearby so you don't have to wait too long.
On the whole, an excellent and agreeable find that I would recommend to anyone wanting to fully experience Venice at an affordable price, away from the crowded and expensive districts of Rialto or San Marco. And while it's 15/20 minutes or so from San Marco, its location is still an asset because of the calmness of the district, the proximity of Piazzale Roma and several restaurants and bars that are just as good as the ones near San Marco.
