Our family stayed in June.
Hotel staff are wonderful, very helpful and very friendly.
Our room is very clean, very simple, quiet and well located.

We caught a water taxi direct to the back landing dock at the hotel, a porter (very friendly) was waiting to collect our bags.

I would recommend this hotel as great value and a safe place to stay! Well done Hotel Colombina.

We recently returned to Venice and to Hotel Colombina. As before the hotel was outstanding and the staff went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. On this trip we stayed in the annex in room 612, which was quite nice and quiet, and enjoyed breakfast each morning in the annex dining room. Thanks to Hotel Colombina for another great stay.

We stayed at this charming hotel for three nights at the end of May before our cruise. The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was elegant and very comfy and breakfast each morning was delightful. The hotel is located a few short blocks from San Marco and an easy walk to Rialto and other sights in Venice. We highly recommend Hotel Colombina as a perfect place to stay in Venice.

We visited Venice in late May to jointly celebrate our 60th birthdays and had a wonderful relaxing time. The hotel was in a brilliant location and only a few hundred yards from St. Mark's Square. Yet the quiet canal-side position provided a haven of peace from the sometimes manic tourism that Venice naturally benefits from. Get a private water taxi transfer from the airport if you can stretch your budget as it is so easy and really starts the holiday off to a romantic beginning. We had chosen a classic room which was really too small for our 5 night stay with only a small window overlooking the back of the hotel. This made the room dark and 'bijou' would be a polite word! However, the reception staff were attentive, perhaps trying too hard to sell us commission based tours etc. but otherwise, friendly. Breakfast provided a wide choice though you will struggle to make a decent cup of tea with their facilities. Within 3 mins walk from the hotel are some perfectly decent restaurants with prices from £20 to £40 a head for 2 course meals. The further away from the main tourist areas the cheaper the prices but most nights we ate for less than £60 and all meals were, if not gourmet, at least pleasant.

Room Tip: I would suggest you stretch your budget and try for a canal side room. Some rooms are a little cramp...

Spent one night pre cruise at this lovely Venetian hotel. We caught a public water taxi from the airport and got off at S. Marco stop and hotel directions made it very easy to find the hotel. The hotel is superbly located within easy walking distance from St Marks and other Venetian attractions. Stayed in a canal view room with a balcony from where you could view the Bridge of Sighs. Room was furnished beautifully. Although we had a wonderful stay, there are a few things that could be improved upon. The pillows were really flat and hard and made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. There are no coffee making facilities in the room, so I ordered a decaffinated coffee from room service in the evening and the price was extortiante for what turned out to be a sachet of Nescafe coffee with a pot of boiling water. They also do not cater for the early risers or guests who need to depart early and who would like a cup of coffee before departing, as they only offer coffee when the breakfast room opens which is around 7.00am. This problem could be easily remedied with a kettle and coffee/tea sachets in the room. However, this being said we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Colombina, loved the atmosphere and view from the balcony.

There are some very good things about this hotel. The staff is very pleasant. Our positive experiences with staff began with email exchanges when we first booked, and they were very helpful with getting us restaurant reservations in some excellent restaurants when I was unable to get direct responses from the restaurants through the web/email. The location of this hotel is also superb - very close to San Marco, just up the canal from the Bridge of Sighs, perhaps 10 minutes walk to the Rialto Bridge.

There are also some not so good things: We were in the Locando di Remedio which is the 3 star annex to the main hotel. We haven't a clue what the main hotel really looks like since there is no real lobby, just a couple of small bars on the ground/water-level floor. The main hotel is rated as 4 star. The annex has very attractively appointed rooms - the wood of the cabinetry and doors is gorgeous. But, the rooms are much too small and not cleverly laid out. The television set in our room was almost an antique - small but bulky for a small room. There is no desk; wi-fi may be free but it is metered and a bit of a nuisance. One has to log-in and log-out religiously or one runs out of time and has to get new codes. Apparently some codes are valid for 1 hour of access and others for 24 hours. The latter was OK for us for a several night stay; but we were first just given the 1 hour access and that was totally inadequate.

That brings me to detail and anticipating customer/guest needs. The bathroom in our room was not satisfactory: The shower was about 24 inches square with a corner opening that I, not a large person, could slip into; but I had trouble picturing how some people could ever get into it. Strangely, I though there was room to have had at least a 30" square shower which is about the minimal acceptable dimension. The shower also does not have a shelf for soap/shampoo/body wash. Despite the small shower, the room has the requisite bidet. On two consecutive days I reported to the front desk that the cold water of the bidet did not work properly and also that the toilet often kept running for an excessive period of time. In both instances I was told "we will look into it this morning". In neither instance was anything done; and while perhaps these problems were not fixable or easily fixable, there was no effort to inform us of the status of handling our request. I gave up.

Breakfast at the Locanda di Remedio is generally good though the toaster is very poor and the croissants that another reviewer seemed to like were the worst we had in two weeks in Italy. Again, I'd chalk these up to inattention to detail. But, breakfast was a pleasant experience, often stimulating conversation among the guests; and the young woman who set it up and managed it every day was excellent - pleasant, efficient, effective.

So, caveat emptor. I'm sure you could do much worse than to stay in this hotel - the experience was truly mixed. But since we had much better experiences in hotels in four other northern Italian cities, before reaching Venice, we also cannot give it an unqualified recommendation.

This is a very well located hotel and beautifully decorated. The bedrooms (we had a canal view room with a balcony) was luxurious and well appointed and from the balcony you had a view of the Bridge of Sighs. The position is perfect with St Marks a 5 min walk away. Breakfast was delicious and offered a good selection. Our only issues with this hotel were the extremely hard pillows and the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room. this would not be a problem if room service was available but the kitchens only open at 7am in the morning. We are very early risers and we had to leave the hotel in order to find some coffee in the morning. There were guests checking out at 6.30 to catch a flight and they were complaining that they were leaving without even a cup of tea or coffee.
We would stay again if we could resolve this issue.

Room Tip: A canal view room is worth the extra cost.
