“Another Great Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

I stayed here January last year and returned later this year early Feb.
Again I can find no fault with Hotel Colombina.
The staff were all friendly and most helpful.
Our room was very comfortable, and clean, breakfast was fresh with lots of choice
Its location is spot on, less then 2 minutes from San Marco, 6 minute walk to Pier Rialto
Free wifi, the snug bar is lovely for an evening tipple before a night out.
I can only recommend this hotel and very much hope to return again next year

This is a superb little hotel (32 rooms) only a couple of streets from Piazza San Marco and I wouldn't stay anywhere else!
Our room may have been on the smaller side but it was very quiet, spotlessly clean, very well appointed with all one needed.
The breakfast is served in lovely little rooms and the choice is extensive with hot and cold selections to suit anyone.
We found the staff to be friendly, courteous, and attentive and the evening bartender in their bar went out of his way to serve guests until late.
We were offered a free return water taxi directly from the hotel landing stage to Murano which was an unexpected surprise. Yes, we were taken to a factory/showroom to see glass made but there was absolutely no obligation to purchase, and you were offered a free trip on to Burano if you didn't want to return to Venice.
All in all an excellent, very comfortable, small and friendly hotel in a fantastic location for shopping, eating and sight-seeing in this most romantic of cities!
Cannot recommend the Colombina highly enough and would never stay anywhere else when visiting Venice!
Don't believe some of these poorer reviews - try it out for yourself - its a great hotel!

This is a wonderful hotel located just 6-7 mins walk from the San Zaccaria bus stop, and just 100 meters from the Piazza San Marco, making it ideally situated for your visit to Venice.
A warm and friendly welcome greets you as you arrive at the hotel. The lounge area and rooms are spotlessly clean, and decorated in the warm and comforting Venetian style..
Free wifi is available that can be used throughout the hotel.
The bright and comfortable breakfast room is set with an ample array of choices including cheeses, cold meats, breads, pastries, fruit, cereals, fresh fruit and fruit flans but to name a few. And a nice addition to the continental style breakfast, there is also Scrambled eggs and bacon on the buffet.
All the team, those on reception, at breakfast, the lounge and room maids are all more than happy to help and friendly, whilst also being highly professional.

This is, undoubtedly, the best hotel team I have come across in the many hotels I have stayed in over the years!

I would highly the Hotel Colombina to anyone wishing to stay in Venice
And, as you can see from the photo, the hotel, (with the blue signage lights), is the only hotel where you can see the bridge of sighs from!!

I have just spent a beautiful long week end with my partner in Venice. This is our second time in Venice and we stayed both times in this hotel. The first time we were truly impressed with the hotel...which is why we went back...but this time round we were a little disappointed.
The first time round we had a stunning view of the canal, this time round in 209 there wasn't. The room was nice and clean but certain details got in the way. For example the magnifying mirror and the towel rail are far far too high for most women. I pointed this out at reception but was told they are standard. That's strange because I never had these problems before in other hotels. And is that why there is a stool in the bathroom...so that the chambermaid can climb on it to put the large towels on the rack? The bathroom though large was cold. The toilet and sink area were once divided by a door. Now there is only a doorway in cement to show for it. On the first morning I found 4 mosquitoes/ants on the towels. The breakfast is really not 4 star with sliced processed cheese and ham you would find in much lesser hotels. And the white, soft bread rolls are tasteless.
But what really spoilt my stay and holiday was that the socket in the bathroom where I charged my smartphone did not work on my second night which means I could not take any photos at all. The first night the socket worked, the second night it didn't. naturally I thought it was my phone but when I came back home the phone and charger worked. What a pity.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view over the canal.

Looking for a 3 night birthday break to Venice we came across Hotel Colombina and the location, room prices and positive reviews on tripadvisor encouraged us to book a stay with the hotel. Although we both expected good things from this hotel, the actual stay excelled well beyond our high expectations. Upon arrival by water taxi (highly recommended if you can afford the expense) we were met by a kind gentleman to take our bags from the taxi to the reception. Here we were greeted by such a warm welcome and a room upgrade. Unlike many other hotels that will try to get more money out of you by offering an upgrade at arrival for a price, Colombina gave the upgrade without even asking for a penny, the receptionist saying that if they have rooms of a high quality available they try to always upgrade guests, quite remarkable in today's world especially in Venice!

Our bags were then taken to our room by the same porter, room 400. This room is a lovely room on the top floor of the building with its own large balcony with views over the rooftops of Venice towards churches and bell towers. It has a very nice Venetian marble bathroom, with a small yet comfy deep bath, two power showers and a bidet (complete with its own towel warmer!). The bedroom area was very nice and a lovely balance between stylish and typical Venetian elegance. The exposed beams on the ceiling add extra appeal to an already lovely room. As you would expect the room has all the normal facilities of a 4* hotel including a safe, LCD TV with satellite, hair dryer and toiletries. A helpful touch is the iPod dock on the alarm clock/speaker.

The room was not only immaculate but every evening they would come for a turn down service on the bed, where little treats including chocolates were placed on the bed as well as a weather report for the next day and a menu for breakfast in bed. Rare to find in many 5* hotels now so a lovely surprise!

The staff at Colombina are absolutely fantastic. Nothing is too much to ask from arranging champagne in the room (which is very much recommended) to booking tickets for events to directions around the mace that is Venice. Providing recommendations, maps, and even a little laugh, the staff not only meet the needs of the discerning traveller but go above and beyond from the initial booking to the final "ciao!”

The location is also fantastic. When staying in Venice you MUST stay in the main area. To walk around Venice, exploring and getting lost is part of the thrill of this beautiful city. 2 minutes walk to saint marks and less than 10minutes to rialto through lovely cobbled shopping streets, Colombina is a perfect base.

Breakfast is far more than expected for a typical Italian hotel. Of course you have the normal continental breakfast but they also offer wonderful eggs (scrabbled and boiled), bacon, tarts and cakes. And if you would like something else, like an omelette they are more than happy to make one for a very reasonable little surcharge. With the wide variety of fresh fruit and yoghurts this is a great start to the day.

There are many nice restaurants around the area, but a cicchetti tour is highly recommended! Visit places such as giroblanco and al Ponte and eat delectable little 'tapas-like' dishes for a euro or two and drink quality wine at reasonable places surrounded by the charm of these little bars and mingle with the locals.

An evening at Interpreti Veneziani was also a very enjoyable experience and really makes you feel like you are somewhere special. Dinner at Central Caffe (see trip advisor) is also a wonderful experience and a 3 course dinner with wine for two can be got here for less than 100 euro. Amazing value for the quality of food before you even consider the lovely service, location and atmosphere.

Our trip to Venice was practically perfect. The weather was a bit on the bad side, cold and very foggy but Hotel Colombina was such a wonderful hotel that we had a fantastic time anyway. Take their recommendations and do ask for anything, they will most certainly go to every effort to please!

Thank you again for our stay, and for everyone considering a stay at Colombina, you can book in confidence and I am sure you will have such wonderful memories of the hotel and Venice. We already cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful but room 400 with the balcony over-looking the rooftops of Venice is truly b...

Once we lugged our bags a considerable distance across st marks to the hotel (we caught the water bus from the train station as opposed to spending €100 on a water taxi), we found the bridge that takes you directly into the hotel. My daughter went in and asked if a porter could help us with the bags over the steps of the bridge, and from this very first interaction, the staff acted as if any request for the most basic service was an imposition. The man at the reception desk spoke English well, but unbelievably fast, and when we asked him to slow down when explaining directions to us on the map, he ignored us. He scribbled so fast and illegibly on the map that it was a miracle we found the restaurant he recommended. When we got there, we realised it was a sham. "Make sure you tell them we sent you" he kept saying. Turns out the 'most reasonably priced restaurant' he recommended was the most expensive restaurant we had yet encountered on our travels through Rome and Florence. The 'hotel organised' gondola ride 'especially for their guests' was another rip off: €30 per person, seating 6 people. We found out later that the normal flat rate for a gondola ride is only €80 shared between the 6 people in the gondola! Hotels in foreign cities should be looking after you, not guiding you into traps!
Another problem we encountered was our room: you could easily touch the ceiling with your hands, very claustrophobic with only one tiny window! And the minimum temp heating went to was 23 degrees Celsius, which even in the depths of winter is too hot and felt simply unhealthy, so we had to open the windows. The con artist receptionist assured us that in venice, all rooms are like this. But when we asked to be shown a different room, both the ones we were shown had perfectly normal ceiling heights and bigger windows, and were the same price, so we requested a change which they gave us very ungraciously.
The beds and even the pillows are as hard as rocks, and you have to go downstairs and get a new wifi password every five hours because the sessions only last that long.
I could go on forever about how unpleasant our stay was, it tainted my whole experience of venice. Strongly advise against staying in this hotel, there are plenty of other options just as close if not closer to st marks square.

The hotel has a traditional venetian feel. From the small reception area, breakfast room, all the way to the rooms we stayed in. The staff was friendly and welcoming. My friends and I loved the room decor and how it was so close to the city center. We paid a very reasonable price for our room and the stay couldn't be better.
