“BEST luxury hotel in Venice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2014

Fabolous hotel with a very luxury feeling and art deco decor. Location is best possible and the hotel feels more private and exclusive than other 5 star hotels in venice. The hotel features a great 2 star guide michelin restaurant that is a must. Beautiful lobby and entrance both to canal and street. Beautiful garden/courtyard. We loved it

Room Tip: We sayed in a big premium room facing both canal and courtyard - it was amazing

We had very high expectations and they were met in the entrance and oriental themed lounge by the entrance but we were disappointed by the size of the rooms. Service was good as you would expect in a classic 5* Hotel. It was the first time we had stayed so close to St Marks Sq. so the location is good for the classic Venice views across to San Giorgio Maggiore and the entrance to the Grand Canal. However we had a dinner in the Met restaurant as part of a package and sadly it was the most disappointing meal I've ever had. It really let the whole hotel down.

Easy to access, on the grand canal with only one bridge to cross from the vaporetto stop. Venetian style decor with beautiful bar, outdoor area, restaurant. Nice bathroom. Pretty pricey, particularly for a room on the canal and for breakfast. Fairly far from the main attractions though so keep that in mind.

From the moment our water taxi arrived at the canal entrance we stepped into what must be one of the most opulent hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff were fantastic , smartly dressed and the service they provided was second to none.
The living room is decorated in rich red with comfortable soft furnishings and dishes scattered around which held spices adding to the warmth of the surroundings. The antique mirrored ceiling finished the amazing effect.
The hotel has its own music manager who compiles music for the time of day and the location. This is an added bonus as his compilations fitted in perfectly for the surroundings. His choice of chill music was brilliant , most of which I had never heard before. I was so impressed I got talking to him and he very kindly made me a CD of some of his compilations.
One evening we had a meal at the hotel in the bar area. Great service and fabulous cocktails. The menu was simple but beautifully presented. Not cheap but you pay for quality and don't forget that this is Venice where nothing is cheap.
Our room was lovely with a wide double bed and everything was clean and top quality. We looked out onto the canal and you could hear the motor boats going past.
This is a hotel you can fall back into like a comfortable armchair.

Room Tip: If you don't want to hear the boats from your room don't get a room looking out onto the can...

We chose the Metropole because of its fabulous location on the Grand Canal with its short stroll from St Marks Square - in addition we wanted a hotel that truly reflected the historic charm of this unique and fascinating city. We were not disappointed. The hotel lived up to all expectations and the classy Venetian decor transported you into a bygone era which was light years away from the soulless contemporary design found in modern hotel chains. The outside of the hotel has a typically worn look so common to the buildings that front the Grand Canal - don't let this put you off since the interior is very classy. Service was excellent and our sophisticated room overlooked the garden. A magical place to stay and a very special romantic break.

From the moment we arrived by water taxi at the hotels private jetty, we had the most wonderful romantic short break in Venice. The hotel is wonderfully quirky and comfortable. The room was beautiful, clean and spacious. The reception staff were attentive and helpful. The hotel is perfectly situation a short stroll from St Marks Square and the many restaurants and cafes that Venice have to offer. The hotel is quite expensive, especially the main restaurant. A nightcap in the bar is a must. If you are looking for a wonderful romantic hotel it is well worth money, and you won't be disappointed you chose to stay at the Metropole.
