“Fantastic Venice hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2010

I had a business trip in Europe and my wife and I decided to stay over a few days and visit Venice. We had not originally planned to stay at this hotel - we had booked another hotel thru my corporate travel office. When we arrived at the original hotel we were told we would have to pay more than our reservation indicated. A lot of that was happening all over EWurope due to the Iceland volcano. We stayed there that night but moved to the Hotel Carlton the next day. It is very convenient to public transportation - right across the canal from the train station and public water bus. It is also adjacent to the bus from the airport. We chose a slightly larger double room and the hotel moved a queen size matress in for my wife and I (it is common in Europe to have split single beds that are pushed together, but have a crack down the middle). The hotel was clean, quiet and well maintained. The breakfast was included and was better than most we have experienced in Europe. Each morning we carried our coffee out to the tables in front to enjoy the sights. The staff was excellent and spoke English very well. When our flight to the US was changed we decided to leave our luggage with them and have it shipped back - they made all the arrangements. We highly recommend staying there and will do so in the future when we are in Venice.

Great place, clean, good staff. Great breakfast and an elevator. Rooms were average size of any Euro hotel you will find. By US Standards they are smaller. I would and hopefully will return and stay there again.

We chose this hotel because all the Trip Advisor reviews were good - we were not disappointed. We were delighted with the location which was away from the busy area of Piazza San Marco but right next to the Grand Canal where there was plenty of Venetian bustle. Our room faced the hotel patio and was a good size and very comfortable - as we weren't acclimatised to Italian temperatures and like a cool room, it would have been nice had the AC been switched on for the season, however, we were perfectly comfortable. The staff everywhere in the hotel were very friendly, helpful and efficient, especially ensuring that tables in the breakfast room were cleared promptly allowing every one to enjoy breakfast from the good choice of buffet. Restaurant and bar service were equally good - we dined in the restaurant for the special dinner on the Feast of St Mark and had a delicious meal of huge prawns, gnocchi with asparaus and scallops, fillets of turbot and tiramisu. All was beautifully presented and expertly served. Were we to return to Venice - a distinct possibility as we throughly enjoyed our stay - we would without doubt stay at this hotel again as we found it hard to fault.

This hotel offered excellent prices for its location. To be honest, before my family and I arrived, I was slightly suspicious after a previous disappointing experience in Venice. But, no, it turned out to be an upmarket, fine hotel with very good prices. It is on the Grand Canal opposite the rail station but this doesn't detract at all from the ambiance, and for us, made sense because we take the train into Venice and just walk across the river to the hotel. Nice clean rooms, posh bar, and fluent English spoken.

An Excellent hotel in every way. Venetian-style rooms, very clean, with facilities like hair dryer, internet access, tv, mini bar, great view to the Grand Canal (at least, as far as our room is concerned). Easy access to vaporeto stations. Really good breakfast, excellent service in breakfast area. Very friendly stuff, willing to give you directions about what to see, where to eat etc. An excellent choice in general, for someone who wants to visit Venice and wants to avoid the crowded area of Piazza San Marco.

When it comes to planning a vacation, I probably spend too much time researching hotels. But a bad hotel experience can ruin a great vacation experience. With over 400 hotels in Venice to choose from, it was a little overwhelming. We ended up choosing the Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal. The minute we stepped out of the Santa Lucia train station, and saw the hotel directly across the canal, we knew we made the right decision. The room we stayed in was beautiful. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was much more than we had anticipated. And the location was perfect. Venice was the first stop on our trip in Italy, and we absolutely loved it. It set the tone for the rest of the trip. Hotel Carlton played a key role in making our time in Venice so enjoyable and memorable.

Well,

Very often I've experienced that I get a room not meeting my expectations for many different reasons. in this case they fully met them which is enough with saying from my side.
