Stayed here for 4 nights in July 2013, hotel is in a great location very easy to get too. The staff were lovely we had a canal facing room which was fab; Room ready, clean tidy, very friendly hotel, lovely terrace on the 4th floor - would reccommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal facing room

We stayed at theCarlton for 5 nights in July, the hotel is excellently placed for getting around Venice, whether that be on Vaporetta or foot. On arrival the reception at the hotel was very efficient even though there was a private wedding In the main reception area, our room was ready on arrival and by 2pm we were out sightseeing. The hotel staff were all very polite and wiling to assist. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, however, this was to a good standard with plenty of selection (even bacon sandwiches). At the end of a busy day the bar on the roof terrace was excellent for having a last drink and chilling before another busy day. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is used by lots of tour groups. Clean rooms with character or old venice. good breakfast. would not hesitate to stay here again. Good location near station right on canal. Lots of shops and eateries nearby open til late. St marks square is about 10 minute ferry ride away but this was never a problem it's good to also stay in this local area. Very picturesque and good feel. Look out the the "marekini" street vendors they will hassle you if you even make eye contact and are very persistent. Unfortunately you have to be rude.

Room Tip: Ask for canal view if possible

we stayed very recently at this hotel.
- front desk staff is good and helpful.
- located very convenient to venice railway station, water bus station, airport bus drop-off point (plaza roma)
- just cross the scalzi bridge near the hotel and you will find lot of cheap and good eating joints. (Avoid the Ristorante Roma just near the scalzi bridge. The prices are a rip off at this restaurant. Instead just get into the small lanes and you will find lot of cheap & good restaurants where folks stand outside and invite you to dine in their restaurant at reasonable prices)

- we stayed in a triple room. the bathroom was clean but the room was small for the price we paid.
- the buffet breakfast is good with lot of varieties but they have the same menu everyday which is boring.
- To reach this hotel from the train station - just come out of the train station and bang opposite you will find the hotel across the canal. you need to cross the scalzi bridge to reach the hotel.

- From the airport: just buy the tickets to ACTV bus. It will cost 5 Euros per passenger. The bus runs every 30 mins and it will drop you non-stop at plaza Roma. From this point, it is a 10 min walk if you have bags since u need to haul the bag over the bridge.

- About buying Venice water transport pass: It is available in different prices for 12, 24, 36 hours etc. You can buy the transport pass at outlets marked "public transport tickets" in front of rail station or inside airport. Some times, near rail station or airport you can have a long line to wait about 10 or 15 mins. A better option to buy transport pass is in any "tabaachi" - meaning tobacco shops. There are many tabaachis which sell the transport pass for the same price and they are not crowded at all.

- To see the beautiful part of Venice - during sunset take the waterbus 1 from san marco to rail station or from rail-station to san marco. It passes thru the heart of the grand canal for approx 40 mins. It is worth the ride, superb and cheap since you have the water bus pass. The gondolas take approx. 150 Euros for a 25 minute ride depending on what time you get into it. The gondola rates increase as the sun keeps going down. My suggestion is avoid the gondola rides and instead hop on the water bus during sunset.

Location couldn't be better. If you don't know Venice then this is in a great spot opposite the Waterbus stop (Ferrovia), so if you have suitcases it isn't too far to drag them (only over 1 bridge). The hotel is tastefully decorated and the rooms are sumptuous and flamboyant and very Venetian. Breakfast is buffet style but with some waiter service (very smart in their white uniforms).
Really delighted to have found this place as it is directly opposite the railway station and easily walkable to all the main sights (bridge of Sighs, St Marks square etc).

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights last week (July1-2). I must admit to being concerned following some reviews I had read. But the hotel was perfect for what we wanted. Although the booking info stated a 4pm check-in, we were in our room just after noon - for which we were very grateful following our 6.15am flight from Stanstead. The room wasn't huge, but certainly adequate - beautifully decorated, and very clean. The TV didn't work... But we didn't fly to Venice to watch TV! Our room was on the second floor at the back of the hotel, and was very quiet. The included breakfasts were very good, with a selection of cereals, breads, cheese, ham, scrambled eggs, bacon etc. On walking out from reception we were greeted by the sights of Venice ... Gondolas and water taxis bobbing about on the Grand Canal, and a bridge to cross over to the water bus stops. On checking out at noon, we were invited to leave our cases in the porter's store room, which was a blessing - our flight back wasn't until 10.30pm. Highly recommended.
