Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal
Ranked #145 of 385 Hotels in Venice

We visited Venice for Carnival. In order to optimize the festive mood, we have decided to join the masquerade party organized by Hotel Carlton.

Food and drinks were well prepared and attendees came with fancy costumes. They had some entertainment show between meals and encourage participants to get excitement.

Seating selection seemed to be made based on first-come and first-serve base so we were allocated backside as we made the final confirmation in mid January.

Well recommended to get there as a group rather than solo or couple. One needs to be careful that after dinner we had to pay drinks ordered at a bar counter.

Cute little hotel with a great view on the canal, where you could sit outside and drink espresso while watching the boats go by. The rooms are pretty small, but that is typical for any European hotel, and anyway get out there and explore, don't waste your time on wifi (which I did not have any issues with). Walkable distance from most attractions...10-15 minute walk to St. Peters Square. Pretty good breakfast too, but not far from other restaurants.

Room Tip: Take the time to sit outside with a cappuccino and people-watch. Also take a night walk to St. Peter...

This hotel is excelent, in front of a vaporetto station and close to the Piazzale Roma were you can park your car or arrive by bus. You only have to walk straight 5-10 minutes. The hotel is also in a nice place in front of the Grand Canal. The rooms are clean and warm and the breakfast is good. The staff were helpfull and pleasent. I stayed in this hotel during Carnival and the only negative point were the carnival partys on the hotel with loud music until late. I recomend this hotel.

This hotel is lovely great location as it means you can explore a lot of the city as you walk to the main attractions.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Free Wifi is a bonus too. The hotel was really well decorated and clean. Our room which had a canal view was spacious and well presented, the only downside was that the water taxi stop is opposite so there was a lot of boat noise all night and early mornings, I would not recommend the room upgrade if you want quiet.
I would certainly recommend the hotel. It is right by the station and main bus stop.

This is the first time I have stayed here.....its a nice hotel. Its rated 4* but is more like a 3* ....the foyer very nice, but the rooms are a bit dingy.....Venetian style which is nice, but the room I was in had no natural light as there was no view, which didnt bother me too much as I was hardly in the room, but they should put better lighting in the rooms. I had to have my room changed as there were three of us and they put us in a tiny room with a tiny bathroom and there was no room to even put your cases, however, they readily changed us into a larger room with a decent bathroom. Shame there are no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms as it costs 10 euros for a pot of tea for 2 which you have to carry up yourself as there is no room service! The location of the hotel is great, Ferrovia is an ideal place to be, and its close to the Vaporetti stop and walking distance to most places.....nicer to stay there than right in the centre near St Marks. I would stay at this hotel again, but I would definitely check what room they were giving me first. Breakfast was good and went on till 10:30 which was good. Staff all very friendly and helpful. No wifi in the rooms.

Room Tip: make sure you dont get one of the tiny rooms as they are gloomy

Beautiful hotel right across the river from the train station! We came in via the train. Cabs are nearly around the corner (about a 5 minute walk). We were very pleased with the service, room, and location. Room was perfect for our budget but it was a bit romantic for us since we're friends. It was very large.

Stayed at The Carlton for a three night break and overall was very happy. Very clean hotel. Very friendly staff. Generous buffet breakfast and very convenient for vaporetto, trains and buses. We had a few tiny niggles. No wifi in rooms so had to sit in the foyer and even then it was a bit hit and miss. Rooms were hot and our room faced another part of the hotel and shutters made it very dark. We had to have lights on at all times we were in the room. Only one pillow which was very hard but staff happy to supply more on request. Restaurant food very nice and welcoming. All in all would recommend but the wifi or lack of it was a pain.
