“For book lovers & for something unique”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

LOVED this shop! It was fairly easy to find and was so glad we made the effort to visit. It is definitely one of the neatest, most unusual shops and I would definitely recommend it for book lovers and those that like to see something other than the tourist top 10. The unique book displays (a gondola!), the staircase made of books, and picturesque setting make this tiny book shop a must-see. The owner was also very friendly and helpful in making sure his customers experienced all the quirkiness the shop had to offer :)

“Best bookshop ever!”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We stumbled upon the place quite by accident and were looking for somewhere which may sell stamps. The owner welcomed us in , gave us stamps an we posted our postcards in the postbox he had beside the till. He then encouraged us to look around and look at the "stairway of books" in a courtyard at the back. It was incredible - quite bizarre! You can climb the carpeted stairway consisting of hundreds of books to look down at the canal below. We then found the "fire exit" which was an opening directly onto the canal! Bathtubs and old boats filled with books. Shelves upon shelves of books. Cats sleeping on books. More books than they can ever hope to sell surely. Totally crazy and wacky but we still managed to spend around an hour just looking and taking it all in! So glad that we found this place and would definitely recommend a visit.

“Get lost in there!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Chaotic and confusing, but with an irresistible charm! There is another library even vaguely similar to this in the whole world. Directly overlooking the canal, this library is full of antiques and quirky, and cats! Must-visit for lovers of books, cats, unusual and picturesque places.

“It stinks!!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

I was here a lot of times, to find some interesting books. Since about a year there is a costumer working there, who smokes a lot. Even the books start to smell like that. So at least in between it´s better and healthier to stay outside and just shoot a photo. The seller, this heavy smoker, is in fact standing next to you and puff into Your face, even when You are coughing.....

“Not Amazon!”
Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

This has to be the most interesting bookshop I've ever been in. There seems to be room after room of books piled from floor to ceiling (apart from when they're in the numerous boats or baths that is).

A crazy place to visit even if you're not looking for any books. Check out the book staircase at the end of the shop and the view over the canal.

Add it to your trip list and enjoy!
