We booked a single bedroom, one bathroom and kitchen diner with sofabed arrangement. And were happily placed in a 1 single bedroom 1 double bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen dinner with sofabed apartment at the same price (room 106). So that was a great welcome!

The apartment was great - perfect for what we needed. And it was fabulous to be able to shop and the supermarket and "eat in" in what must be the MOST expensive city in the world!

We met both Guido and Veronica - two very lovely and helpful people.

On check out we noted a couple of glitches (lack of hot water one evening, a smell of fish - probably from another apartment - nothing major) and Veronica was very keen to know what the problems were. We also "confessed" our sins (a child who had wet the bed) and offered to pay for extra laundry - but no charge was added.

As everyone has noted - a stone's throw from everywhere, but very quiet. Right next door to a police station too!

In a ridiculously overpriced and somewhat arrogant city, this was a great find.

Room Tip: 106 - at the back so no views - but incredibly quiet.

Al Bailo apartments are absolutely wonderful from the peaceful but atmospheric, central location, to the modern but very comfortable furnishings and fittings, and to the team that run them. I spent a very happy 5 nights here self-catering in late January doing Venice in the Winter. I felt very safe inside the apartment and the area surrounding the building even late at night. It is a very quiet location so you get a good night's sleep in the very comfortable bed. The heating was very easy to control, with separate controls in the lounge and bedroom. Fantastic bathrooms and lovely marble tile flooring throughout the apartment.Everything is very clean and well designed

I could not fault a thing except perhaps for a faint occasional whiff no doubt from the canal right outside. Being a frequent visitor to Venice, I have stayed in a variety of hotels and bed / breakfast places across the city, but Al Bailo beats them all including Villa Igea where I stay regularly. Plus I found it so much cheaper (and fun) to shop locally for food in the supermarket and at the Rialto Market and to cater for myself than to eat out as I usually do when I stay in the City.

Particularly excellent value for money in winter i.e. out of season, I cannot recommend Al Bailo too highly. On my return home, I immediately booked for another stay next November . Thank you to Guido, Veronica and the others for making my stay feel so special.

PS I note that the same company operate two further apartments buildings, one of Guidecca facing the Zattere and the other close to the Rialto.

Room Tip: Ask for an apartment directly overlooking the canal and Chiesa San Lorenzo

This apartment at Fondamenta San Lorenzo is very clean newly renovated place. Good access to S. Marco only about 10 minutes walking. Nearby a supermarket for locals.

The apartment was great, with two bathrooms and a kitchen. Location was very convenient to a grocery store and not far from Piazza San Marco. The manager, Guido, was very helpful in every way, from giving us directions and recommending where to eat. Although not far from the main attractions, it is located on a quiet street so noise was not an issue. Would definitely recommend this establishment to others who plan to visit Venice.

Al Bailo was the perfect place for us to stay for my birthday week. The location in quiet Castello was everything we wanted for privacy, but still close to everywhere we would want to go. The apartment had everything we needed to have a memorable dinner after a visit to the Rialto market and a local wine store. We realized that the apartment building is in the former Questura, which Donna Leon fans will recognize as the office of Guido Brunetti. Art history fans may recognize the canal in front of the building from Gentile Bellini's Miracle of the Holy Cross. Veronica was very helpful while she was filling in for Guido. We will be back, and next time we will bring our young daughters.

We just loved this apartment! It was absolutely spotless, roomy, comfortable firm beds, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen...and not more than a 10 minute walk to San Marco Square and the vaporetto stop. There was a great grocery store 2 minutes away, Guido gave us great directions and was helpful in every way....highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again.
One word of caution - don't open the windows, at least in September/October! The a/c works fine but i threw open the window for about 15 minutes for some fresh air and woke up the next day covered in mosquito bites :(

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs (yes there is an elevator if you have lots of luggage) in 106, beautiful and spac...

I have nothing negative to say about this place. Booking went to plan, if you arrive after 3.30pm you will receive instructions on how to enter the apartment. We had a one bedroom which as soon as you enter has the WOW factor. It was split over two floors with the bedroom on the top floor and the bathroom, lounge and kitchen on the lower floor. It was at the front of the building and occupied the front half of the entire 2nd and 3rd floors, so much more bigger than I expected. At night it was quiet in the rooms with air conditioning. It had all the facilities you would need and a pleasant and helpful staff. The location was fantastic with everything in walking distance but slightly away from the hustle and bustle. Definitely recommend this place.
