“Waiters a bit snooty, but fun off-the-beaten-track experience”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We were looking for a restaurant that the locals frequented in Venice, and after successfully ignoring the annoying street promoters trying to entice us into their restaurants, we found Paradiso. The waiter was quite frank and a little snooty in telling us that we could only have a table until 8:30. However, we grabbed one near the bar and settled in for about an hour and a half. Plenty of time to soak up the experience. We asked the waiter to bring us a plate of cicchetti, and the food was delicious! Yes, it was microwaved before serving, but still quite yummy - in fact, we went back for seconds. There was live music in the restaurant section, which we were able to hear and enjoy. In general, we would prefer a restaurant where the tables are hard to come by over one where the owners are accosting you in the street any day (those are usually BIG disappointments.) Great fun, and a highlight of our trip to Venice.

“Paradise found!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

Sunny stroll alongside the peaceful canal led us to this bustling haven of authenticity away from all the tourists. Simple tables adorned with stunningly cheerful fresh flowers, platters of amazing seafood & vegetable delights, friendly staff, the most delicious wild berry tarts, and all that for a fraction of what one would pay near San Marco. Perfect!! I would definitely go back...

“Not worth it”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

It might as well have been Disneyland fried food night. It was supposed to be our fun last dinner in Venice -- and we love unpretentious local places -- but not this one. If you come just for food, then skip it. Fried and overpriced. In Los Angeles there are a cheap Italian places, so we might as well have gone there, than track it all the way to Venice for mediocre Italian food.

“How can this place be so low in the rankings?”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

We found this place whilst trying to find another restaurant and were glad we did. Bustling with great atmosphere and really nice staff. We were offered shared tables, one we could have had til 8.30, but we plumped for one we could have til 9. We were still at the table after 9 and did not feel pressured to leave.
We were at a trestle table where 1 couple were already eating. We were then joined by a lovely German couple with great English and finally a couple of ladies.
We had a mixed fish starter for 2 which was huge and delicious. Interestingly each of our 4 couples ordered this and it varied slightly from each large platter. It cost €29 but was wonderful. Followed this with mixed fried fish for 1, delicious and fresh but enough for 2! My husband had sole. Everything was served with a dollop of polenta which came from a HUGE saucepan by the kitchen.
Good house wine and an atmosphere not experienced in years! A couple of accordion players topped a really fun social evening with really wonderful food.

“A wonderful evening”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We decided to go to Paradiso Perduto as my friends were arriving in Venice quite late and we were looking for a restaurant open after 10pm. Paradiso Perduto was a real "Paradise" experience !!! We had cicchetti as the cuisine was closing at 11pm and a couple of pichets of house white wine "ombra". Everything was EXCELLENT. Friendly staff, great atmosphere ! We came back the following Sunday for lunch. Tables were outside alongside the canal. Once again it was fantastic.
