Owner description: This world famous opera house, burned to the ground in 1996, has been rebuilt amongst much scandal and drama: its modern beauty and complex history ensure its place among the most celebrated monuments in Italian history.

If you are not familiar with La Fenice's history, you must read it all about it (specially the fires) before going there. You will be amazed to see how it has survived for so long while still being respectful to its roots. It looks like a trip in time.

Tip: while I hardly ever have the patience with Audio Guides, I recommend that you make use of them at La Fenice. Some information given are crucial to understand what you are seeing - like the air conditioner positioned under the seats.

We caught the second half of Don Giovanni in this beautiful opera house, rebuilt after a fire or something. As a last minute decision, we weren't in great seats, but the accoustics and interior decor were fabulous. The exterior's not bad either. A fun way to spend a few hours as a special treat in Venice.

This opera house really took my breath away! We took the audio guide as there was no guided tour on that day. The interior design reflected that it was the place for the rich and wealthy in the hey days. Advisable to check their website for the performances and book it in advance to avoid any disappointment.

We had only dreamed of hearing opera at La Fenice, assuming ticket prices would be out of our league. We had checked the net, without success, either they were too expensive or the performance was sold out. However, after arriving in Venice, we checked at the opera house, and were delighted to find much cheaper seats available. All had limited viewing, but we were advised by a passing, kindly and opera-experienced Venetian. The booking assistant was patient and helpful too, as we reviewed which seats would provide best views of the stage.
We had two seats in a box, 8 boxes from the stage. Ours were the back two, behind the front two and we were so lucky with the people who came to those seats. They also were experienced and arranged their seats so we could have the best possible view. And we could stand if we wished.
The opera, Don Giovanni, was wonderful. The inside of the theatre is splendid; so rich, colourful, refurbished as it was originally, absolutely gorgeous.
So, if you want to hear opera here, don't be put off by apparent lack of availability of decent seats. Choose carefully and it may be a magical evening, as ours was.

I had my reservations about a modern dress staging of Mozart's opera but it turned out to be a fine performance. The theater itself is a very fine reproduction after a fire but it's a great space. We came about 30 minutes early just to watch the people. The price of our private box not inexpensive but a great value.
