We arrived via train from Cinque Terre so it was very easy to find the hotel.
On arrival they did try to put my friend and I in a different room even though we had paid for a canal view room 2 months before hand. Also had to wait for an extra 2 hours as they mentioned that the check in time had changed and many others were also waiting and not happy.
After a wonderful lunch and glass of wine on the canal we returned And it was then I decided that we were not happy to just have any room considering we had paid for the view. After mentioning I would contact out booking agent and ask for a refund find alternative lodgings that a room suddenly materialised.
Though after that initial hiccup the rest of the time service was very good.
Wifi only really worked in foyer or Resturant not in bedroom.
Breakfast was ok, but I have had better and you did have to fight off pigeons every morning.
I would stay again if visiting Venice but try to avoid the month of August , far too busy

We returned to the Hotel Continental after a great stay there a year ago. We booked a "Double Privileged Canal View" room as we had last year but were shocked at the filthy state of the carpets in room 132 that was allocated to us. The bathrooms are also in need of an upgrade as there are areas where the enamel in the baths have worn through.
Two of the light bulbs in our room were also not working so it appears that very ltiile attention is being given to maintenance on the property. This is a pity because the hotel is excellently situated just a stone's throw from the railway station and the canal facing rooms have a view so great that one could spend your whole stay just admiring the view.
For the price I would have expected that they would have a minibar fridge in the room but this too was lacking.
Other than that , the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts were brilliant by Italian hotel standards (just don't leave your table on the verandah unattended as it will be invaded by pigeons).
Would I return? Well yes, if they tidied up the place but I can't help feeling that the prices are not in line with what is available elsewhere on the Grand Canal anymore as thy have increased substantially in the past year.

Room Tip: For really great canal views ask for Room 132 or 133

Not a typical hotel that you would expect in Italy - the building was old and not particularly maintained. Had to dag our bags to the first floor - not sure if they have an elevator..however, breakfast was decent and the tables are right next to the canal - so the views were good. Also, the place is right next to the train station so it was convenient to reach..good for a bunch of guys on a tight budget - the price was much lower thn the fancy venice hotels

Rather disappointing, room was very small and dated. Breakfast was a buffet which was ok but guard your food. The pigeons would swoop down and clear your plate in seconds!
Overall a fantastic few days in Venice, but if the hotel was better our holiday would have been perfect

In a very handy location. The Porter & dining staff were the most friendly & helpful.
The young man on the main reception counter was most polite.
The older man & lady never smiled!!! Why are you in this job!!!!
The most unfriendly reception staff I have ever encountered.
I wish I could say something better - the Hotel is in great need of updating
Painting rooms more brighter & cheerful would help.
On the bright side handy to shops & right on the Grand Canal.
I loved Venice very much.
We will stay somewhere else next time sadly....

By USA standards this was 2 star at best. The bad: Smelly room, creepy wallpaper, dark.
The good: location, breakfast, breakfast area but watch out for those pigeons. The room did seemed clean. Staff was not friendly but very helpful.
