“Lovely hotel in a perfect location”
Reviewed August 25, 2014

We came for the second time to this lovely hotel in the Dorsoduro district in Venice. As in the first time we enjoyed the location only a few steps behind the Accademia bridge. We are looking forward to our next visit. Of course in the 'American Dinesen'.

After a nice welcome from the very friendly staff we were taken to our room. Everything was shortly explained and showen. The location is as good as it gets, it is less then 15 minutes by foot to the San Marco square (tip: take line 2 by bus boat to 'Accademia', the stop right before 'San Marco'). Extra wishes are prepared perfectly by the staff! The breakfast buffet is also good, actually very little to complain at all with this hotel!

Room Tip: The suites are very nice!

I researched so many hotels in Venice and finally decided on this hotel. I wasn't sure I made the right choice until we arrived. It was an absolute dream. Rooms are a good size for Venice, and I love the location.

It is located on a quite street and yet a quick walk to all the sites. I'm so glad we didn't stay on the grand canal because it would have been too noisy. I also like that there aren't a ton of tourists walking by our hotel.

The air conditioning worked brilliantly and was simple to use.

The front desk was super helpful and always friendly.

Best part of this hotel is the restaurant next door, Ristorante Cantinone Storico. Absolutely the best meal we had on our 18 day vacation. Be sure to have one person order the gnocchi and someone else order the steak so you can share. I will be dreaming about this meal.

This was our 4th stay at the American Dinesen and it was as good as ever.
The hotel is in a perfect place close to the Accademia bridge and water stop, the Guggenheim museum and Accademia Gallery. It is close to the Zattere water stop for the Alilaguna link from the airport. If you are taking the water taxi from the airport you can dock right outside the hotel. Despite being close to these things it is very peaceful, in contrast to the Rialto and St Marks areas.
The staff have not changed in the years we have been coming which has to be a good sign. The exception this year was the lady who serves coffe at breakfast who had had a fall and hurt her arm ( get well soon Giovanna ! ).
Our favourite restaurant in the locality was San Trovaso whose Spaghetti Scoglio is wonderful. For a special occasion we found a restaurant which had just opened, between the Centurian Palace Hotel and the Salute church. It is called Gusto in Abbazia and the food was of a very high quality.
We would recommend the Hotel American to anyone and look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: We have always gone for the superior canal view rooms. Room 202 is our preferred.

We stayed a week ago at the Hotel American Dinesen. I was so glad I splurged with a canal view room. There was a lovely side walk cafe and gondoliers right below our window. We enjoyed a bottle of wine on our balcony while watching the Venice scenery. The hotel is in a perfect location. It's quiet, but still full of plenty of pedestrian and canal traffic. It's very close to the Guggenheim and a simple boat ride away from St Mark's (only one stop on the 2 line). Our only disappointment was the breakfast, but this hotel is well worth it. We will definitely be back!

My teenage daughter and I are cruising around Italy for two weeks. Our trip stated from Venice. This hotel was our first night spent in Italy. It couldn't have been any better. Safety and staff's attitude is excellent. Location is good. Very romantic and cozy and beautiful place. We paid 170€ For the double room with the balcony on water. We got a free water taxi to Murano island and they held our luggage for the rest of the next day. Absolutely will go back unless I decide on considering the price for comparison.

The hotel has a traditional atmosphere, with interesting decoration but featuring nice refurbished toilets. It's located in a calm neighborhood, close to the Academia and Peggy Guggenheim Collection and walking distance to St Marcus Square.
