Their dock for water taxi was very cute. Front desk very helpful. Breakfast and dinner very good. Wifi was the best of the tree cities we visited. We had upgraded to a canal view room which was nice but I had paid quite a bit to upgrade our friends and though they had a larger room they did not really have any view. For the money paid this was quite a disappointment as they were celebrating their 30 th anniversary. the location was wonderful short walk to Rialto or St Mark's Square. I would stay here again but it was a bit of a disappointment for the extra money paid.

Our time in Venice was always going to be pretty short. Arriving by overnight train from Paris on the Saturday morning and leaving just forty eight hours later, the margin for error, in doing everything we wanted to do, was all too small. With the Hotel Splendid however, we hit the nail on the head.

Located literally three minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge, and its water bus stop, and a similar distance from St Mark's, but sufficiently secluded not to be bothered by the hordes of tourists who plague those places, the hotel is perfectly positioned. Sitting beside a little back canal, on which it has its own little landing stage, it transports its guests back into a world of quality service and simple beauty, before the rest of the world descended.

The welcome at check in was warm and friendly, a feature of the hotel which remained until we stepped aboard our water taxi to the airport on Monday morning. We were quite early checking in, and our room wasn't available yet, but the hotel looked after our bags whilst we went exploring, before showing us upstairs a few hours later.

Our room, number 170, was perfect for our needs, with two queen sized beds, and an apparently new and well equipped bathroom. The view wasn't much to write home about, and it would have been nice to be able to open the shutters a little further to get some more ambient light, but then we didn't come to Venice to sit in our room, did we?

As we had paid for a deluxe room, the cost of wireless Internet, a modern necessity to my mind, was included. This was accessed via a unique username and password though, irritatingly, it required one to login upon moving around the hotel or returning from the city beyond. Whilst the speed was generally okay, it varied quite dramatically at times. Perhaps this seems like a "nice to have " for some hotel owners, but increasingly travellers expect it to be there.

Mention must be made, before I conclude, of the excellent breakfast offered by the hotel, in its large restaurant under a flat glass roof. The quality of the continental breakfast components was very high, particularly the pastries, which were fresh and tasty. The staff were always welcoming and friendly.

This is a hotel which is quietly excellent at what it does. It clearly knows that the small things, like a friendly word from the ever smiling doorman and porter, can make as much difference as the quality of the building itself. The location, of course, speaks for itself, the difference is in how they've used it.

Booked for 2 Nights.

Surprisingly new & taken care of. Very spacious for Venice Staff very helpful. Rooms are very modern, Furniture is well taken care off. Had a deluxe room. very spacious. Small living area & a bedroom. TV Flat & good channels (mostly Italian). Breakfast buffet nice with good food. Hotel is very well priced. Bed is huge and very comfortable, actually would fit 3 average adults. Had a canal view room, great, a bit hard to see though.

Didn't Like:
Charge for the stay twice. Before arrival in a day, then they charged me again on the last day. it was not only a credit card deposit, it was an actual deduction. Internet is NOT free, which is very strange for hotels in 2013. Room got dusty quickly. Air Condition works, but not good performing. Sofa bed was very uncomfortable to sleep on.

Overall, hotel is great. no major issues, except for the Wifi not being free. Location is perfect. A bit crowded at times, due to the bridge its located on. Make sure you take a water taxi that can take you to the hotel bridge, if its too big, they will drop you off further, which would be a 300 m walk through the crowd, and with bags, it would be a hassle. Travel light preferred.

Room Tip: No real canal view rooms, so don't bother if its for an extra fee.

Stayed 2 nights in October. Mid way between Rialto and San Marco - each only 5 mins away. Room 108 was lovely - two windows opening onto the lovely little canal below, with the gondolas drifting by below us. The drinks were pricey - but it's lovely. Breakfast was great - super range and lovely coffee!

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel after reading so many worrying stories of hotels in Venice. Travelling by car so left it at airport long stay car park and jumped in water taxi straight to door of hotel. Very we'll positioned between Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square. Very comfortable and we'll appointed room - only disappointment was that we booked a canal view and could only catch a glimpse of canal if I hung out of window by ankles!. Good breakfast. Attentive staff.

Room Tip: Ask for room on front of hotel if you want to overlook canal.

We stayed at The Splendid Venice for 3 nights in mid October, having booked online via EBookers. The location is very well situated, simply superb, being only 200 meters from both San Marco and Rialto Bridge, via the beautiful backstreets of central Venice. The only slight drawback is getting your luggage to/from the hotel. The adjacent canal appeared too small for a direct water taxi, so on the way in our taxi dropped us at San Marco and we made the 200 meters walk, On arrival we we greeted warmly and advised that we had been upgraded from superior deluxe room to a Suite, at no extra cost! The room, it's decor and in-room facilities were marvelous. Buffet breakfast is a very good standard and if selected in advance can be served in your room at the alloted time for a small incremental charge. We didn't have lunch or dinner in the restaurant and preferred to eat out and there are hundreds of restauarnts within a 10 minute stroll. Don't miss the roof terrace which provides great atmospehric views of venetian roof tops and even sections of San Marco Bastilca. Gondola trips can be taken from the steps of the hotel along adjacent canels. All staff were friendly, polite and most helpful. Thanks
