This Hotel is marvellously located in Venice as it is located roughly halfway between St Marks Square and The Rialto Bridge making quick and easy access to both. The lounge area is sumptuous with window cameo views of the canals. The room are large, very comfortable and quite luxurious as are the bathrooms. We travelled as a family of 3 and the hotel provided us with a large convertible couch bed and there was still plenty of room even though we had two double beds in the room. There is a charmingly designed large restaurant that doubles as a dining room where breakfast is served and this is the only drawback…the breakfasts are not good. Actually they are quite bad.The worst we had in Europe!
Despite the breakfasts the location sure makes up for it..and I recommend this Hotel highly.

I stayed at the Splendid in October and find the internet search and book system rather daunting to navigate as Venice is littered with nice looking hotels. I chose this one as it looked less scary than red red velvet brigade that was a fairly common search result. And luckily, as it is not cheap, well nothing is in Venice, it was a direct hit. Perfectly located for a first timer...central and close to everything. Venice was throbbing with tourists even in October, so if you want to be less in the heart of things, there are probably some terrific out of the way places to stay and I might opt for that should I ever be lucky enough to visit again. But the Splendide was well appointed, clean and felt quite spacious, for Venice [the lobby/bar/restaurant not the room]. The room I booked was a standard but suited us perfectly and had a canal view although it was not in that pricing tier. It was small but had everything and the decor was elegant. The internet is free in the lobby, but you have to continuously fetch 30minute vouchers from the concierge to logon which is very annoying. One plus was that it actually worked in the room as well. We also paid the daily rate for a 2nd computer, which was 12 Euros per day which is always annoying, I wish hotels would just modern up and offer free internet. It is my number one criteria for selecting a hotel, and I only deviated this time as this hotel seemed to have all the other boxes ticked. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, very busy too with service staff running off their feet. Strangely the coffee was always served lukewarm and tasted like instant. I had high confidence that in Italy, the hospitality industry would serve a great coffee but alas it was a struggle to find in hotels. If you could catch the eye of a waiter whizzing by, you might be lucky enough to ask for a cappuccino and I highly recommend you do, but remind them to make it hot. Drinks at the nice bar overlooking the hotel were eye-wateringly pricey, but a nice location in the evening, so worth the splurge.
Considering that coffee, internet and cleanliness are my hotel niggles and this one wasn't 5/5 on the first two, it was still an excellent stay in a very magical and extraordinary watery city and I would recommend it as a very easy, comfortable establishment with charming staff.

Room Tip: A canal view is nice but not essential..we stayed on the 2nd floor and it was very quiet.

We found this hotel through lastminute.com, but then checked it out through Tripadvisor. When both sites agreed it was good, we booked. And it did indeed prove very good. Easy check-in, and because we were staying more than one night we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, recently redecorated in dramatic purple satin and pink velvet and with its own small sitting-room and huge bathroom (shower only, but a shower that could take 3 people easily!). Two TV's, 2 phones, and special lights that lit up if you needed to go to the loo in the night. Breakfast buffet was extensive, though I agree with the other reviewer about the bacon. But with so much other stuff, who needs bacon? A change from the bright yellow scrambled eggs each day would have been nice, but these are minor quibbles in such a large selection. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, which looked pretty up-market and expensive. The hotel is on a small canal, so I suppose you could get one of the water taxis to the airport if you wished, but those are expensive, so on our return we simply took the public boat from Rialto, which costs 15 euros a head and takes an hour or so. The other advantage of this hotel is that it is 10 minutes from the Piazza San Marco and 10 minutes from the Rialto bridge. We walked everywhere from dawn to dusk during our 4 day stay. How amazing to be in a city with NO traffic noise! Having only been there as a day tripper before, I had never realized how wonderful that is. The hotel recommendation for a restaurant our first night proved pretty expensive, we thought, but after that we used our our instincts and managed fine. I would always now return to this city to stay for the night, not just for the day. Specially if we got the same lovely welcome and upgrade for staying several nights!

We have just been to this hotel few days ago and we were quite pleased with it. Rooms were clean, comfortable, new and with many comforts. Breakfast was delcious, home made cakes and pastries, good selection of cheese, salami, youghurt and cereals, only problem was the bacon: too fatty, not really good. Hotel employees are all very professional and polite. There were few problems though: minibar is ridiculously expensive, 4 euros for a small bottle of water but the main problem was when we left, there was a very high tide in Venice and taxi could not get to the Hotel, we had to walk to the Gran Canal and we had to walk through 30 centimeters of water, nobody of the Hotel helped with baggages and they had no solution at all, what happened with elderly customers? How could they reach the airport with heavy baggages? In Venice hotels should be organised for these weather events, we were very pleased a taxi driver helped us but all the experience was unconfortable and scary.

Room Tip: Don't have an organised trip to Murano, you see nothing except the glass factory and the shop an...

We just loved this hotel...The location is perfect. We get there in a gondola, passed under rialto bridge and greeted warmly by the staff. The hotel is very nicely decorated and new & modern in the middle of this very old town. Rooms are perfectly sized. The best baby crib was ready for my daughter which is very very important for us.When we first stepped out of our hotel for a walk we just realized we r right by San Marco Square and all the great restaurants and attractions. On our second day, it rained so much that we woke up to a city under water, literally... and we had to spend most of our time in the hotel but still the atmosphere was so warm and nice that we did not complain. Overall, i would recommend this hotel not only because of the location but also because the staff will make u feel good. Summer will be great at Starhotel, in Venice. We Will be back!

+ves:
- Location, right in city center, close to Rialto bridge, close to San Marco square
- Cleanliness (room, towels, bathroom, sheets, pillows)
- Comfy bed and pillows
- Room design and furniture
- Staff knew all about Venice and were REALLY helpful
- Well lit and airy breakfast room

-ves:
- Small room (but again its Europe! so can't really complain)
- Not much of isolation in room but not big deal of a noise though!
- Breakfast! very poor and not much of a good quality
- No WiFi in rooms and internet in the lobby needs a new password every 30 minutes!

All in all it was a great experience except for the breakfast.

Yes, I do recommend it!

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for Canal View room so you enjoy the view of Gondolas!

Couldn't have hoped for a better location, quiet but close to everything. For us being nearby to a trattoria that serves gluten-free pasta was an advantage too. Lovely decor. One evening we had dinner in the courtyard restaurant which was atmospheric and food was good. We had rooms overlooking the canal which I would recommend - even witnessed a proposal of marriage on a gondola - although be aware that it can be a little noisy in the morning. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the canal provides plenty of interest.
