“NOT recomended!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Very good breakfast and the drinks at the bar. I've never seen such a terrible service. 5star hotel??? NEVER!!! There were a huge roof eater infiltration on the 2nd floor, it looked like a rain!!
Staff not pleasant or nice, actually they all were very unwulling. You can walk everywhere because the hotel is well located, but there are many others in the same location so, please, choose another one!

The Europa&Regina is often considered the "Cinderella" among the three Starwood properties in Venice (the other two being Danieli and Gritti). Apart from the Gritti, closed for restoration and due to open by March 2013 (and my best choice for the last 20 years: a review will come as soon as it reopens...), the E&R is the best in Venice, and I shall try to explain why:
1. Unbeatable position: 4 mins walk to SanMarco square but in a very calm and silent courtyard, close to shops but without the "front door motorway effect" several other canal view hotel offer (and suffer...)
2. A good number of rooms with a full canal view, and more in general a good number of rooms are front view (i.e. with good natural light, although not directly on the canal grande)
3. Staff if extremely kind
4. Food is truly very good; expensive (average for a very nice Venice location, by the way), but 100% worth a visit. And the restaurant terrace is unmissable. The Maitre Sergio and his whole staff are always wishing to help, and it shows
5. Common areas are remarkable, and the nice courtyard facing the canal grande is a must in summertime
6. Prices: hotels in Venice are pretty expensive; The E&R often offers good packages (check on their website), but more in general prices in my experience are below those of other comparable hotels
7. Being a "Westin", it is the most family-oriented hotel I have seen in Venice. But if you want a romantic stay, it is good as well (there's plenty of nice cozy rooms and little terraces)

If fully restored, this could be the typical new style hotel split in two parts (as it happens more and more often): the front-view palace with let's say 60 or 70 rooms and the remaiing buildings with the remaining rooms, a different branding, separated check-ins, etc. All-in-all, I like it as it is now...

Room Tip: check their website to see different types of rooms (they are fairly described), then contact direct...

I stayed here with my husband for our Honeymoon in August 2012. We really had a very hard time choosing a hotel in Venice because there were so many and it was very overwhelming. We decided on this one because it was a Westin which we were familliar with back home and seemed to be in a good location. The hotel itself was a little bit hard to find and you had to walk through a long dark alley way to get to the entrance. Something which made me a bit uncomfortable at all hours of the day. The room itself was very nice small but decorated nicely and the bed looked beautiful. The bathroom was small and a little outdated. We were on a very low floor with no view. I was close to all the shops once you went through that alley. The breakfast way very good. overlooking the water and had great choice of food and drinks with mimosas included. It came included with our room alothough I probably would have paid for it because it was very nice. Only downfall was the birds. I know it's europe and its next to the water but I am terrified of birds and these birds were not at all scared of people. they hoped right up on our tables while we were eating and seemed to be really bothering everyone.
When we were out for a walk we discovered many other little very nice hotels and were a quarter the price of this one. They were right outside all of the main shops like burberry and there was no dark alley to walk though. They weren't on the water but we didn't have a nice water view from our room anyways. When we had asked the hotel to switch to a higher floor we were told there was nothing else available. We ended up staying here just the one night and moved to another hotel the next day that was just as nice and clean and was much cheaper. the difference of $400.00 Can. a night to $129.00 a night. and then went out for a really nice dinner with the money we saved. if we go back we will book one night somewhere and then just by walking around figure out where we would like to stay. You really don't know unless you see the rooms and hotels and they are all so close to each other.

Room Tip: request a high floor

The location is near to the famous San Marco Piazza, however, it was not easy to find the way there unless one takes a water taxi directly to the hotel.

Once there, the staffs at front office and concierge were friendly.

The breakfast experience at the restaurant next to Grand Canal was awesome.

Exceptional hotel situated very close to St. Marks Square. The location is fantastic and ideal for exploring enchanting Venice. The rooms were first class, really tastefully decorated and luckily we got a room with balcony which opened out to The Grand Canal. It was spectacular to wake up and look out at that view. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. 5 stars. Well done Europa and Regina. I'll be back.

We spent two nights and were lucky to stay in the Westin. The location is excellent, next to Piazza San Marco. Our room had a view on the grand canal, beautiful.
The service was friendly and caring. Got a real nice touch with a cake offered for my birthday, as well as a room upgrade :-))
The very nice decoration was just set fro Christmas, it was so charming.
Just breakfast and bar prices are too high (like elsewhere in Venice)..

Room Tip: Our room had a connecting door with another room, and we could hear every single move from our neigh...

We didnt arrive by water taxi, instead from the entrance next to conceirge. My first question was "Is there no bell boy?".

The guy at the front desk was humorous however a little casual for my liking, who showed us to our room which i thought was a little small. I became really frustrated during the shower where the hot water only started to flow only at least 3-4 minutes, there I was shaking in the cold. The size of the shower box was ridiculous, I am not a big man but I found turning my body in the box rather awkward, the antiquated showerhead was spraying water spradically in every direction. That was when I went THats it and made a complaint to the Hotel Manager. We were then shown a room that was larger but far from luxury which I settled for. Both rooms had view to the canal which was nice but overpriced in my opinion. After all, we paid over 500 Euro a night.

I later found out, the hotel was originally called Hotel Europa & Regina and was taken over by Westin at a later stage. I would not visit those hotels again. My stay at a suite in Westin Sydney was very pleasent.
