Just 2 tiny bridges to cross to reach the People Mover to get you to the port. Very well maintained, modern bathrooms, "antique" furnishings. Air conditioning can't be controlled in room but it was (just) okay (we were there in July). 2 minute walk to water bus (vaporetto) to take you anywhere you like, as well as 2 minutes to the train station, 30 minute walk to Rialto Bridge. Breakfast nothing special but Europeans don't do breakfast like North Americans. Capuccino included and hard-boiled eggs provided. Nice small garden off the breakfast room. Free Wi-Fi in the room. We got hacked by someone in Hungary but that's what u get for using wi-fi. Only downside is that it's impossible to find, but then, what is is easy to find in Venice? My best shot at instructions: Do NOT cross the big bridge in front of Piazzale Roma. Go to the right of it. Look for the Santa Chiara and walk past it, over 2 bridges, turn right immediately after the second bridge. It is the 2nd building from the corner (next to the Walter Hotel).

Very close to the train station and easy to get to, ezcept for the large bridge. Succumbed to accepting help with our suitcases for 10 euro! The hotel was right after the bridge, so that was 10 euro for four minutes work! we asked to be upgraded, the first room was much toooo small. he larger room was lovely and clean. Liked that the toilet was separate from the shower. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of variety.

Gardena would be a great hotel anywhere, given the pretty rooms, good breakfast, and cheerful management, but the real draw of this place is the location. It's right across the grand canal from the train station, and easy to find. That does mean that the walk to some of the attractions is longer, but I'd rather walk without my bags than try and find a different hotel in maze like Venice while toting my suitcase along! Restaurants and shipping closely.

This hotel is conveniently situated just by the Piazzale Roma which is the area where all buses/cars run to in Venice, before stopping for the canals. It was very easy to walk to within a few minutes, it is also just over the river from the main train station so well located for this too. The outside is very well kept and on a side canal so not too much noise outside, the reception area was large, air conditioned and with free wifi so nice to relax in. The reception staff seemed to be two men who were always helpful when asked but did not volunteer much information otherwise. Our room was probably the smallest in the hotel with just enough room to walk around the bed, although contained a wardrobe, a table and a fridge. This didn't bother us too much as we were only staying two nights and were out most of the time. The room was a little tired but clean, very quiet and good enough for a few nights, it overlooked the back of the building but we hadn't paid for spectacular views. There is a breakfast room and outside courtyard, self service continental buffet with cereals, bread, cheese, ham, egg which was all very nice, and the person that does deserve a mention is the lady serving and restocking the breakfast items, she was always friendly and cheerful in the morning. Overall I would say this is a nice enough hotel for a couple of nights with breakfast and wifi included and in a good location for transport although a 20 minute walk from the main attractions but with water buses and taxis right outside. Don't expect five star luxury but for the price we paid (and Venice is expensive) we were happy.

This is a lovely property. It is right on a canal and is so nice inside. The walls are painted with murals and each room is unique and clean. The only complaint is that three bridges must be spanned (with luggage) when you are coming from the train station. When WILL Venice put luggage ramps on those bridges around the station?! The breakfast at this hotel is excellent and Gardena Hotel wins the prize for nicest breakfast room decoration. They have a little garden as well and you can take your breakfast out doors. The English should love this hotel because the selection of breakfast teas looked very complete. There were also meats and cheeses, yogurts, pastries, hard-cooked eggs and two flavors of juice/punch. The customer service was good and there is an elevator -- a rare delight in Venice hotels.

We had two rooms for us and our children here pre-cruise. We picked the hotel because of its ideal location near bus from airport and proximity to cruise port, but I was so pleased I would return whenever I'm fortunate enough to be in Venice. There was a transportation strike the day after we arrived but walking to everything is very doable.
The gentlemen at reception were dignified but perfectly nice not unfriendly as someone posted; they marked directions for us on a map.
The rooms were immaculate and the views amazing. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely.
I know there may be another hotel about 1/2 block closer to the bus but the setting isn't nearly as nice.

Incredible hotel just across from the train station on the Grand Canal. Friendly helpful staff, wonderful view from room of side canal street. Great breakfast included. Location is perfect if you plan to use the train station, the bus station, or take a cab to the cruise ship harbor, which is only 5 minutes away by land cab. Will stay here again.
