This is a very nice hotel. It is on the Grand Canel and very close to the Riallto Bridge. The city market is also very close. We had a nice room with a mural on the ceiling on the 3rd floor. It was in the back of the hotel so had no view, but was quiet. The breakfast was nice. We followed the map on the hotel website and found it with no problem. You have to be careful to follow closely, the alleys are very tight and you might not think you are going in the right direction, but you are. We found the location very nice. It is the 3rd stop on water bus #1. We bought 3 day passes and took the taxi or walked everywhere. You are 10 minutes to bridge and another 10 to St. Marks Square. A great location, and the bridge and market are easy to find and good to ask if you need directions. Everyone is Venice is pulling luggage and looking lost so after a few days you will get questions about directions. We would recommend the hotel and stay there again without hesitation.

My boyfriend and I wanted to stay in Venice out of season to avoid the masses. We had a marvellous few days in the city and the hotel really contributed to that. We treated ourselves to a private water taxi from the airport (90euros) and I would recommend that anyone planning to stay here do the same because it is ever so exciting - my stomach flipped as we left the lagoon and entered the canals. Arriving in style, I felt like a film star! We were greeted from the taxi and the staff were very welcoming. A charming man worked 'front of house' during our stay and he always had a friendly word to say whenever we saw him. We were offered a complimentary drink on arrival but were too excited to hang about so we 'hit' Venice armed with the map provided by the hotel.

The hotel was conveniently situated, about 10 minutes walk from the Rialto and a bit longer to St Mark's Square. We liked being tucked away and enjoyed the strolls to and from the main tourist sights, passing retaurants and bars catering for Venetians and not mainly tourists. We felt very safe, even walking through the streets in the early hours of the morning.

Our room was comfortable and clean. The shutters blocked out all light so we sept well, especially being so tired after hours of walking. We had plenty of wardrobe space and the mini bar was well priced. The small bar is a nice place to have a pre-dinner drink in the evenings. The breakfast room is really sweet, with the food items kept well-stocked, and we liked standing on the balcony and watching the canal traffic. Had it been summer, we would have made every effort to get one of the two tables on the balcony - what a location for breakfast.

Venice itself was marvellous. So good, in fact, that we got engaged whilst there. It was the perfect setting. I would recommend the secret tour of the Doges Palace, taking the lift up to the top of the Campanile, visiting St Mark's Basilica, splashing out in Cafe Florian and/or Cafe Quadri (the latter was my favourite with less tourists packed in and gorgeous petit fours) and walking around the sestieres rather than catching the water buses. Only when you set off on foot so you really get the feel for the city. For a nice meal with fresh produce and good wine, I recommend Trattoria Da Bruno (52 Calle del Paradiso , Castello).

We celebrated our engagement with an amazing meal at Cip's at the Cipriani. We took the complimentary water taxi (all polished wood and velvet) to the hotel's island in the lagoon and had a romantic candleit meal with views to St Mark's Square. It was expensive (25euros for a soup starter!) but worth every euro. A wonderful way to end a wonderful break in a lovely unassuming hotel.

We hope to return and stay again in the San Cassiano Ca Favretto.

Spent 4 nights in this hotel in November, we had a standard room on the 3rd floor overlooking the alley which is where the hotel entrance is located . The room was very quiet, spacious and clean, but very dark !! The windows did not let in much light due to the building opposite which is very close, like everything in Venice which adds to the character of the city. Everywhere is easy to walk to once you get your bearings and we only used the vaporretto once to get from the coach station on arrival from the airport. Found the restaurants in Venice to be either expensive or mediocre which is unusual for Italy! Except for the MADONNA TRATTORIA !!!! which is what you would expect in Italy good food, atmosphere and service with a reasonable price. It is near the Rialto bridge on the San Paulo side in a side street called Madonna. We went on our second night and decided to go on our last night but it is closed on a Wednesday. We ended up at the Aquila Nera over the Rialto bridge which was rather a poor substitute. The Alle Nono Risorte near Campo San Cassiano a 5 minute walk away is cheap with a good atmosphere but BEWARE !! the food is very salty .Go to the wine bars near the fish market before your meal they are good. The best place we found near St Marks square for a drink and excellent sandwiches is the Osteria da Baco which is in one of the side streets went there twice in the evenings and also went a couple of times in the daytime for a coffee and sandwich .Beware! You can still get bitten by mosquitos at this time of the year to our surprise as we both found out ! Overall this is a nice hotel and I recommend it fully.

Fantastic hotel, especially our room overlooking grand canal. Lovely wooden docking station at front of hotel with a couple of tables, fantastic to sit there with a drink and watch the world go by.
Staff very helpful and friendly.
Easy to find once you get the hang of water taxis.
All the street corners have yellow signs pointing to either San Marco or Rialto Bridge which really helps you get your bearings.
My first time in Venice - lived up to all expectations and I'd love to go back and stay at the same hotel (if I could afford to!).

We had been recommended to this hotel by a work colleague who had stayed there some time ago and loved it. We certainly weren't disappointed. On arrival we were given a complimentary drink on the terrace overlooking the Grand Canal as well as some useful tips on restaurants and sightseeing tours. Our room for the first night was on the ground floor next to the terrace overlooking the Canal and was very spacious with a good bathroom. For the next two nights we were upgraded to a junior suite on the first floor, again overlooking the Grand Canal. Yes it was full of old furniture but that's to be expected in a 13th century palace. However the bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean with plenty of towels. The shutters on the windows kept out the noise and the light so we had a very good night's sleep. The staff were wonderful and we took advantage of the free trip to Murano without buying any overpriced glass items. There are many good restaurants close by the hotel. Venice is just a dream and would be high on my list of places to recommend to anyone. It's very easy to walk around going up and down over little bridges and we walked through every district in the city. A boat trip to Burano and Torcello is also a must.

Stayed for 4 nights, end of October. First night, had an upgrade to a room overlooking the Grand Canal, right next door to the breakfast room - fantastic sight out of the windows, but not sorry to move to the back of the hotel for the rest of the stay as the Grand Canal is the 24/7 wet equivalent of a motorway, and nearly as noisy!
Standard of both rooms very good but the the canal-view one had creaky floors and wobbly furniture - still what do you expect in an old palace that's been sitting on mud for several centuries?
Good breakfasts - lovely fresh fruit (hence the nice pears title...)as well as the scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, bread, cake, blah, blah - we never had to eat till about 3!
Quiet location, but easy to find, loads of good restaurants within 5 minutes.
Helpful friendly staff, all spoke just enough English.
Don't be afraid of taking the free taxi-trip to Murano - yes, you will be set upon by chandelier salesmen but they will, eventually, let you say no, and the blast over the lagoon is worth 15 minutes concentrated sales patter.
Although having explored Venice, we would choose to stay somewhere else next time, we would highly recommend the San Cassiano.

  • Liked — beautiful, quiet location, classy rooms, friendly staff
  • Disliked — the ability to make a cup of tea in the morning would be nice

We stayed in San Cassiano in Venice for 3 nights this October. We booked through Hotels.com and booked superior room. I was very excited to see what it will look like. However, I was very disappointed with the room. It was the room number 220. It was next to the restaurant so the noise of morning cutleries woke us up. The room was standard size with about five big cracks on the walls. The floor of the room was leaning about 15 degrees to the side and the TV on the fridge looked like falling off. The door on the bathroom did not close for the same reason. The furniture in the room was old and in my bedside table were stains as well as some piece of sellotape to hold it together. The golden mirror on the wall was also full of stains. Still don't know where did they get the "Superior" from?
The view from the room was on the little canal. The restaurant was reasonably good size with small choice of breakfast but tasty one.
As the room was so awful we spent most of the time sightseeing and returned only in the evening to drop in bed and have some sleep.
Mind that apparently the Mayer of Venice does not turn the heating on until the 1st November so the room was cold as there were only blankets, no duvets.
I would not go to this hotel again for the disappointment of the "superior" room we had.
However, I would recommend to visit Venice to anyone, as it is very beautiful city, like a "toy town" my partner said and he was definitely right. It is magical place to visit.
