“Very nice hotel in quiet part of Venice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2011

The Papadopoli in Venice is a very nice hotel that is close to the Piz. Roma but in a quiet section of town. They have several nice restaurants nearby and there is very little foot traffic compared to the more tourist-oriented sections of the city. The rooms were extremely clean and they had a good restaurant and bar in the hotel. This hotel is particularly convenient for people going on cruise ships (300 yards to the cruise shuttles and people mover) This is a good choice families, couples, and business people.

What stands out most in my mind as the number one indulgence of this hotel is the clean and ample feather pillows and comforter after a long day of walking walking. The breakfast was awesome, the staff wonderful and the locatio perfect. A few steps from the water bus that stops all over Venice. I would stay there again in a minute! The instant hot water for coffee and tea in the room were really instant.

This hotel is conveniently located a few minutes walk from the train station. So, if traveling with light luggage, it's very easy to walk to it, drop the luggage, and then visit Venice at leisure.

From there, it took me 20 minutes or more to walk to Plaza San Marco. The route is not straight forward, but it was quite interesting, with plenty of shops, coffee shops, trattorias, small bridges, etc, etc.. There are signs at each intersection pointing towards Rialto Bridge and San Marco Piazza so even when the route is not straightforward, it's "doable". Returning to the hotel is also "doable" thanks to the signs that say "Ferroviaria" or "Piazza Roma" (or something like that). In any case, the hotel will give you a map. They gave me one first that did not have enough detail to be useful, but later they gave me another that was more detailed and allowed me to find my way around "town" fine.

The daily rate was pricey... over 300 euros, but I checked the rates of other hotels online and they were either sold out or pricier, so I figure that "if you want to visit Venice in May you have to pay".

The hotel itself is OK. The front desk personnel if professional and friendly. I could check in fast enough and the room that I had reserved (147) was spacious, clean, quiet, and had a nice size bathroom with plenty of hot water and nice water pressure. I learnt from a colleague who traveled with me that not all the rooms are as spacious. The elevators are very small.

The breakfast buffet costs 25 euros and it's not worth it. It's better to walk outside and have breakfast in any of the multiple cafes nearby.

WiFi Internet access service at the hotel offered by Vodafone costs 15 euros per day. Again pricey compared with alternatives such as a city wide WiFi service called VenniceConnect that costs 15 euros per 3 days, and they also have a 7 days plan that's a better value. The speed of download was adequate, but nothing to brag about. I did not measured it, which is something that I normally do.

Room Tip: Check with the hotel or online about room size.

This hotel will be great once Accor spends some real money towards renovation. The air conditioner leaked water through our ceiling although it didn't inconvience us. The restaurant is very pretty but overpriced. We went down for breakfast the first day and the room was full, we were shoved off into a spare room. That was not good. We ate out the rest of the stay. Our room overlooking the canal was comfortable but looked worn. The location is really great and convenient to all areas.

Upscale bedding, towels and robes, in a quiet area of Venice near the train station and Piazzale Roma. Clean and comfortable. Probably priced well for Venice, but would prefer it to be a bit less costly. No need to take your luggage on the vaporetto all the way down to Piazza San Marco which is inconvenient and troublesome as you cross the bridges parrticularly. . We have stayed in the hotel the last 3-4 years we have visited Venice. While some of the rooms are really small, we stayed in a larger one - standard room - this time and could actually spread out with our suitcases.

Although the hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the bus terminal at the Piazzale Roma and is on one of the main walking routes into the city dont let this put you off. Its location is perfect to get "away from it all" at the end of a day of sightseeing and is in a convenient location to make full use of the waterbus at the Piazzale Roma.

Room Tip: Advance booking best.

Great hotel close to train station. Locals know this hotel as the "former Sofitel" and they all know where it is. When you get lost they can direct you back to the hotel (which can't be said for all hotels in Venice). Clean rooms. Friendly staff.
