“Beautiful outside but austere inside...”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Worth going to see it up close as like a huge wedding cake at the entrance to the grand canal, but very disappointing inside it is like a shell. Worth walking to the point at the entrance to the grand canal to see the statue of the boy with frog.

“Beautiful outside, but not as awesome inside”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

The basilica dominates the end of the Grand Canal and has the Salute vaporetto stop right in front of it. It is a relatively small circular church that is simpler inside than outside, although the interior is decorated with artwork by Titian, Giordano, and Tintoretto. Take a few minutes to say a prayer in front of the Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child in the high altar.

Right beside the church is the Rio della Salute, which makes for a beautiful photo backdrop with the numerous boats "parked" there, and the ex-abbey of San Gregorio with the small wooden bridge in front of it.

“A good place to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Located at the entrance of the Grand Canal, this is an excellent place to spend your afternoon by the steps of this church absorbing the activities in and out the Canal. If you prefer some peace and quiet moments, head inside the church. Peace and serenity awaits you. Note that there are beggars at the entrance of the church demanding fees to be paid before you enter, ignore them but if you wish to give out of charity please do so. They can be quite aggressive.

“Amazing quiet gem”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We visited this basilica after fighting through the crowds at Saint Mark's Basilica. It is beautiful and quiet. There were no lines or crowds to fight. You can sit in front of the altars and enjoy the serenity. We were also able to light candles. It was a beautiful experience during our visit in Venice.

“wonderful”

Amazing place although we were hassled by a beggar! We just wanted to light a candle and take in the atmosphere, was a shame as she did spoil the moment!
