This museum is overrated. There is so many great places to visit and history to experience in Venice. Skip this museum and enjoy the culture and history of Venice doing other things.

This was Peggy Guggenheim's personal residence on the Grand Canal in Venice. Her father died when the Titanic sank in 1912. Peggy was only 13 at the time, so she didn't get her inheritance until she turned 21 in 1919. She inherited about $2.5 million (=$34 million in today's dollars). She moved to Venice in 1948, where she lived, and collected modern art, until her death in 1979. The museum houses works of Pollack, Picasso, Kandinsky and many others. I knew very little about modern art before visiting, but I enjoyed it very much. I definitely recommend.

My favorites were the Cubist pieces "The Regular" and "At the Cycle Race-Track." It is of course an amazing opportunity to see pieces by Picasso and Dali. The works by Jackson Pollack are intense.

Very good collection of contemporaneous art. Good quality art. Special panoramic vision through the windows to the gran canale. Recommended if you love art.

Peggy Gugenheim was quite a character, and it's a treat to tour her lovely home, now an amazing collection of modern art on the Grand Canal. Before visiting Venice, read City of Falling Angels, and you will really appreciate this home (and the whole city). Don't miss her grave, with that of her little dogs, and the olive tree from Yoko Ono.
