Known internationally and well regarded. We stayed at the Bauer this weekend for our 20th anniversary as both the children were on school trips. The service was excellent. The staff were very helpful. The concierge was great suggesting timings and schedules for us.
Our room was in the main hotel overlooking one of the side canals of Venice, but with a view down to the Grand Canal. There was a bustle of gondolas with people having their music/serenade. Very atmospheric. We were able to access the balcony from out room so could sit, watch and listen.
Breakfast was included and was superb, with plenty of choice and good quality, with prompt and attentive service. Oh...and of course this all came with the terrace overlooking the Grand Canal and the bustle of its business...outstanding.
eating in would have been pricey...but hey its 5 star and we chose to eat in more authentic locations (concierge sent a list of places they recommended).
All in all briliant.

The Bauer is certainly reknowned and it should be. Five star service from the staff! We stayed here prior to boarding our cruise ship and could not have been more pleased. It is a 3 minute walk to St Mark's and maybe 10 to the Rialto Bridge.

The rooms are adequate and very small compared to most hotels. But they are spotless. The bath tubs are very high so some people may need to consider that feature as it is difficult to get into and out of. Loved the provided slippers and robes.

Sitting on the patio looking out on the canal is unbeatable.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view or you will be looking into a very bland courtyard

A mandated flight layover after a cruise found us needing a place to stay for the night. Holland America suggested the Bauer it was a bit pricy but because of the location on the Grand Canal my wife and I chose it. The water taxi delivered us to the door a great entrance to the hotel. We arrived at 08:30 check in was 13:00 so we left our bags and made a tour of Venice.
The Hotel is old, but well appointed with lots of staff in uniforms. The bags were delivered to our room, but for some reason the bell captain thought he should show us our room. He showed us how to turn on the lights and made sure our bags were there and paused to let us know he expected a tip (Holland America told us the gratuities were included) then he left.
We made reservations for the restaurant which is on the Grand Canal. The view and atmosphere were great. The meal was ordinary and over priced but the service was excellent. We had the beef rib with vegetables 50 Euros per person which I can't recommend; way to chewy and gristly, That, said, the view and atmosphere made up for any slights.
The room was good sized, the bed was comfortable the pillows were full of doorknobs. Wi-Fi of course was extra. We slept well. We had an outside room with a view of the canals which was a plus, no complaints but not 5 star accommodations.
We had breakfast (included) on the patio. Plenty to eat and lots of choices. No a la carte.
At the front desk checkout was quick and efficient.
We had a great time in Venice and the hotel Bauer was a part of it. My review is mixed, I would like to recommend the Bauer to those who love old hotels which are hanging on but this one needs to upgrade to the 21th century.

Such a beautiful hotel. Unique experience to arrive and leave with a water taxi. PS, it's wiser to per-order and pay for the taxi ! Such a beautiful terrace ... and what a view! Rather good breakfast but have had better. Very nice and clean rooms ...

My husband and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary, and everything about this hotel made our vacation just perfect. The hotel itself has an intimate feel, the staff knew our names right away, and upgraded us to an incredible room on the 5th floor with a balcony and a welcoming bottle of prosecco. Even before our stay, the concierge was very helpful in arranging restaurant reservations, reserving a tour guide, and recommending activities like "Music a Palazzo" which is a small opera company that performs in a palazzo on the Grand Canal. Breakfast on the rooftop, "7th Heaven" as they call it, was a highlight, with the best view of the Grand Canal and the rooftops of Venice. And the location is perfect, just steps from St. Marks Square and near a water taxi/shuttle stop as well. All in all, a wonderful visit, we wish we could go back soon!

Room Tip: The 5th floor has room with balconies.

Stayed at the Bauer on the Grand Canal for a long weekend break. Our room was in the annexe next to the hotel, but the quality wasn't compromised. The bedroom was adequate, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom, including walk in shower were excellent. Having breakfast on the hotel piazza, overlooking the Grand Canal was a delight. You need to accept that staying at the Bauer, most things you purchase, eg: drinks, food and the hotel itself are not cheap. You are also charged a city tax on departure of 10 euro per night. The hotel is situated just a two minute walk from St Marks Square and therefore, everything in the area is quite expensive. However, travel across Rialto Bridge and prices become a little more realistic. Overall, a wonderful experience in probably the best hotel in Venice.

The Bauer is a wonderful place to stay in Venice. Luxury and location all rolled up into one. Breakfast served on paio overlooking the Grand Canal where you can watch the gondolas go by. I would recommend this property highly and will stay here again, should I return to Venice. The room and bed was very comfortable, not up to five star US standards but very nice and very clean.
