Owner description: Originally built as a lighthouse to assist navigation in the lagoon, visitors can be whisked by elevator to the top of St. Mark's Campanile or bell tower to savor incredible views of Venice, the lagoon and the Alps in the distance.

At the time of our stay the cost per person was 8 euros. The view from the top was breathtaking and a good opportunity to take some great photos. If you time your visit well the queues aren't too bad.

If you have the time, the short elevator ride - yes there is an elevator - to the top of the tower is worth the wait in line. The views are spectacular. Whereas on the ground you are continually traversing canals, from the view on the top of the tower, in many parts of the city you cannot even see the canals.

There was a line to get into the bell tower, but it moved fairly quickly. There is no stairs option; you have to go up in the elevator. As we arrived at the top, security was removing an early 20s frat boy type who had been messing with the bells. We stayed up there for a while, and it was pretty packed. You kind of have to wait at each window for your turn to take in the views, but they were amazing and worth the wait. We were up there when the bells rang and while many people were covering their ears, I didn't think that they were that bad. It was loud - sure - but it wasn't painful. We got a video of the spectacle and felt lucky to be up there when it happened. It was pretty windy. i'm not sure I'd head up on a cold day.

From here you will see all Venice and beyond ! Crowded most of the time but still worth it. Just be careful when the clock strikes the hour. The bells are really loud.

If you go close to the quarter hour, you will go deaf from the bells ringing over head. It is extra loud at noon. The elevator whisks you to the top in a few seconds so there are no stairs. The views of Venice are incredible. Also, the water in the vending machines are very cheap. Only 1 Euro!
