Owner description: Originally built as a lighthouse to assist navigation in the lagoon, visitors can be whisked by elevator to the top of St. Mark's Campanile or bell tower to savor incredible views of Venice, the lagoon and the Alps in the distance.

You travel to the top of the building by a quiet and reasonably fast lift. When you reach the bell tower there is an amazing view from all side of the tower. It was a little misty on the day but the views were still amazing and our photographs shown some details that we would have never seen otherwise.

The queues are long. The lift is small. But hey, this the bell tower of San Marco Basilica we're talking about here. Originally built in the ninth century (no lift back then!), collapsed in 1902 and then rebuilt by 1912, it is in one of the best locations in Venice. The 360 views are amazing. Well worth a visit.

I love aerial views of cities, particularly at the beginning of my stays to get my bearings. It costs €8 to go up the campanile (bell tower) in the lift, and it's definitely worth it for the views across the lagoon to the Dolomites.
It might be better if they put labels on the panoramic view cards - but you're supposed to buy the audio guide for that. My boyfriend and I had a slightly hazy day, but I very much enjoyed seeing the size and scope of Venice from above.

I wanted to go to the top of the tower and was put off by the long queues waiting to get in - however I found that evening time proved to be the best - not only was the wait time less - but the photos of the sunset were great

Really provides a magical view over the city. It is awfully popular and busy, though, so consider visiting the campanile on San Giorgio (just across the water from St Mark's square) instead for a quieter viewing experience.
